CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
overall

Summary
With 1,768 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,331, 37.8% of 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
90.8% of 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe stands out as the most efficient Grand Cherokee ever, as long as it is kept charged. It brings a plug-in hybrid powertrain to Jeep’s best-selling SUV, adding 25 miles of all-electric driving while still preserving the off-road capability buyers expect from a Grand Cherokee. That combination makes it appealing to shoppers who want a more fuel-conscious version of a familiar utility vehicle without giving up the Jeep character.
It also has a stylish design and impressive technology, which help broaden its appeal beyond efficiency alone. The main drawback noted is that the interior materials feel cheap, so while the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offers a compelling mix of capability and electrification, its cabin does not feel as polished as its strengths might suggest.

The vehicle is absolutely beautiful and I love it.. the features are amazing and it’s a blast to drive, super comfortable and smooth — Although, I do feel the plug in feature is useless. It runs out of battery extremely fast and takes way too long to charge. This technology is still to new and needs time to be advanced. I’d recommend getting the gas powered model over the hybrid.

Its a beautiful Suv, ot to mention it gets almost 60mpg due to it being a 4xe, it also delivers a satisfying 375 HP with almost 400 in torque, has the power when you need it, also has a Hybrid battery that takes only 2hrs to charge ( on a slow charger, faster at home to charge ) the battery also gives you almost 30 mile range to get you to the nearest gas station. Range, roughly over a 1,000 on a full tank

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe earns 4/5 from users and 7.83/10 from experts. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
It stands out as the most efficient Grand Cherokee ever when you keep it charged, and it still preserves the off-road capability you expect from the nameplate. That makes it a strong fit if you want a more fuel-conscious version of a familiar SUV without giving up Jeep character.
The main trade-offs are the interior materials, which feel cheap, and the fact that the 4xe’s towing rating trails the gas V6 and V8 versions. If you value capability, electrification, and a stylish design more than cabin polish, this model year fits that brief well.
Good and great deals account for 38.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe is built around a plug-in hybrid setup that pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with a battery pack, and the expert data describes it as the most fuel-efficient Grand Cherokee ever built when charged regularly. It also uses regenerative braking and multiple powertrain modes, which gives you flexibility in how you manage energy use.
The cost-effectiveness data also notes that regular charging is key to making the ownership math work in your favor, and the federal tax credit helps offset the higher upfront price. If you skip charging habits, long-term ownership costs can rise quickly, so this is a used SUV that rewards disciplined plug-in use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a plug-in hybrid where charging habits and overall condition matter. Focus on whether the battery-related systems work as intended, whether the cabin shows wear in the hard-plastic areas, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base 4xe already feels close to upscale, while the Overland adds leather seats, wood and metal accents, heated and ventilated front seats, and bronze contrast stitching. The Trailhawk is the most off-road-capable trim, and the Summit Reserve sits at the top with a more luxury-oriented presentation.
- Powertrain: You get a plug-in hybrid setup with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 400-volt battery pack, standard four-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic. It delivers 375 horsepower, 470 pound-feet of torque, 56 MPGe, 25 miles of all-electric range, and 470 miles of total driving range when conditions are favorable.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert. Intersection-collision assist is optional on lower trims and standard on the Summit and Summit Reserve, while front parking sensors require an Overland, Summit, or Summit Reserve.
- Infotainment: Uconnect 5 brings a customizable interface, and the Grand Cherokee 4xe includes a 10.25-inch digital driver display on all trims. A 10.25-inch front-passenger display is standard on the base 4xe, optional on Overland and Summit, and standard again on Summit Reserve. Wireless charging is optional, and four USB ports come standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid setup is rated at 56 MPGe and 25 miles of electric-only range, with 23 mpg once the battery is depleted. The cost-effectiveness data says regular charging is essential if you want the ownership savings to add up.
Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe trim should I buy?
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is offered in 5 trim levels: base 4xe, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
Here's the short version:
- base 4xe: This is the best-value starting point if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain and a long list of standard equipment without paying for luxury extras. It already includes the core electrified setup and a surprisingly upscale feel for the money.
- Trailhawk: Choose this if off-road use matters most, since it is the most capable trim in the lineup. It is the right pick if you want the strongest trail focus and can live without some of the more luxury-oriented features.
- Overland: This is the trim that adds a more polished cabin with leather, wood, metal accents, heated and ventilated front seats, and more upscale detailing. It’s a good middle ground if you want comfort and appearance upgrades without jumping all the way to the top.
- Summit: This trim moves you further into luxury territory and adds more advanced equipment, including standard intersection-collision assist and standard surround-view camera coverage. It suits you if you want a richer feature set and more convenience tech.
- Summit Reserve: This is the top choice if you want the most complete version of the 4xe, including standard premium audio and the most standard equipment in the lineup. It’s the best fit if you want the most luxurious take on the model.
Safety-package note: intersection-collision assist is standard on the Summit and Summit Reserve, and front parking sensors are standard only on Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe?

- Deal availability: 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,757 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.89% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,314, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe's resale value?
The current average of $26,314 sits slightly below last year's $32,047.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the plug-in hybrid system has been used as intended.
Because this model rewards regular charging and strong maintenance habits, a well-kept example should be easier to move later than one with neglected upkeep. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe safe?
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe has not been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert. Jeep also offers intersection-collision assist on lower trims, while it comes standard on the Summit and Summit Reserve.
Night vision is not available on the base trim, and front parking sensors require an Overland, Summit, or Summit Reserve. The surround-view camera is optional on most trims but standard on the Summit and Summit Reserve. Jeep also said a hands-off driver-assistance suite would come later, but it was not available to early buyers through an over-the-air update.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.89% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 brings the new plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee formula with 25 miles of electric driving and strong off-road capability.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $27,537, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $26,314 average.
- It adds gloss black exterior accents.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter starting point because prices are lower and the market offers decent deal availability. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a small styling update, the 2023 is the secondary path to consider.
