For the 2022 model year, the Jaguar XF will have the distinction of being the only sedan in the British automaker’s U.S. lineup, as the smaller XE has been discontinued. The midsize XF enjoyed a considerable refresh last year—including lower prices—so the 2022 model is a direct carryover. The Jaguar XF continues to be offered in S, SE, and R-Dynamic SE trims. An announced R-Dynamic Black model for the U.K. and other markets will not be offered in the U.S.

The 2022 Jaguar XF drivetrain remains a stout 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. In S and SE models (also called P250 S and P250 SE), the engine produces 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Previously available with all-wheel drive (AWD), both S and SE models are now rear-wheel-drive (RWD) only. The R-Dynamic SE (also known as P300) is a solely AWD configuration and has its inline-four tuned for 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Although all XFs have a top speed of 155 mph, the higher-output R-Dynamic SE reaches 60 mph in 5.8 seconds versus the S and SE trims, which take 6.5 seconds. A Dynamic Handling Pack is available for the SE and R-Dynamic SE models and adds configurable driving settings, an adaptive suspension, red brake calipers, and a trunk lid spoiler.

With no performance changes, the Jaguar XF carries over its fuel economy sensibilities. For S and SE RWD models, these figures are 25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. The more powerful R-Dynamic SE AWD is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. Compared to its luxury four-cylinder-equipped counterparts, the Jaguar XF is fairly fuel-efficient. Its numbers are identical to the BMW 5 Series’ but exceed those of the Audi A6, Cadillac CT5, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. To be fair, it’s only a one- or two-mpg advantage, but it’s an advantage nonetheless.

Standard exterior features for the base P250 S include LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated and foldable outside mirrors, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Upgrading to the P250 SE adds automatic high beams, approach lighting, and 19-inch wheels. The P300 R-Dynamic SE is treated to exclusive R-Dynamic badging and performance-oriented design bits for the bumpers, grilles, and side air curtains as well as body-colored door handles and side sills. An optional Black Exterior Pack is available for all Jaguar XF models and creates a stealthier presence with gloss black features added to the grille, lower intake surround, side vents, windows, tailgate, and badging.

The Jaguar XF cabin is outfitted with standard perforated genuine leather heated seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, wireless device charging, 12-speaker Meridian premium audio, and a 7-inch instrument cluster display. Available are Windsor leather upholstery, suedecloth headlining, a heated steering wheel, and a 16-speaker surround sound system. An available road noise cancellation feature makes the quiet and comfortable interior even more so.

The 11.4-inch infotainment touchscreen that became standard as part of last year’s refresh continues to dominate the center stack. The Pivi operating system features navigation as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Opting for the available Privi Pro adds connected services like weather and parking locators plus an AI assistant and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

Safety features of the 2022 Jaguar XF include automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking aids, lane keep assist, cruise control with a speed limiter, a driver attention monitor, and a 3D surround camera. Available are a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and Clear Exit Monitor, which alerts occupants of an approaching vehicle prior to exiting the vehicle.
