CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Hyundai Tucson
overall

Summary
With 4,002 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,418, 35.1% of 2022 Hyundai Tucsons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Hyundai Tucson 4.82 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
82.7% of 2022 Tucson models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson stands out for its redesigned shape and the extra room that comes with it. It is longer and wider than before, which gives it more cargo and passenger space. That larger footprint helps the Tucson feel more practical in the compact SUV class, especially for buyers who want a small SUV that does not feel cramped.
Inside, the Tucson’s appeal comes from its high-tech cabin and comfortable ride. Hyundai also gives it a competent engine lineup and standard advanced safety features, which add to its everyday usefulness. The overall package is aimed at shoppers who want a spacious, well-equipped SUV that makes a strong case for a test drive.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Tucson’s performance is described as fairly pedestrian, and the base engine is underwhelming. Even so, its comfort, space, and safety equipment make it a compelling choice for buyers who value practicality over excitement.

I love all the bells and whistles! The ability to set all your personal preferences-seat settings, heat/air,radio,phone,dash board view, and with your name! The blind spots are nice. It was a great deal with decent low mileage, limited AWD, I got more for my money. Fully covered with great warrantys

I LOVE this car! I researched and waited for the right one for months! I am so pleased with how smooth it drives and the fancy features! My know knock would be the lack of power. It doesn’t accelerate very quickly but I didn’t really expect it to. Overall I’m obsessed and can’t wait to drive it for many years to come

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,398 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,398 |
| Year-Round High | $22,574 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,573 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.63% |
Prices have softened 9.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,998 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.82/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, excellent safety features, stylish design, and spacious interior. Those themes line up well with the Tucson’s family-friendly use case, especially if you want a compact SUV that feels practical rather than cramped.
The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and performance is fairly pedestrian. Even so, the Tucson makes sense if you value comfort, space, and everyday usefulness over quick acceleration.
With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they are extremely satisfied with their purchase. That kind of long-term confidence matters when you are shopping used, because it suggests the Tucson has earned trust beyond the first few months of ownership.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Tucson’s competent, everyday character and its ability to deliver a comfortable, well-rounded driving experience. Hyundai’s complimentary normal oil changes and tire rotations for 3 years or 36,000 miles add a useful ownership perk.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not outright reliability so much as choosing a neglected example with uneven maintenance or wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full inspection. Focus on the condition of the cabin, the tires, the brakes, and any signs of prior bodywork or uneven wear. If you are comparing trims, make sure the equipment you want is actually present on the specific vehicle you are considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model gets standard LED daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlights, LED front turn signals, and cloth seats, while higher trims add features such as roof rails, heated outside mirrors, and more upscale interior materials.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a turbocharged 1.6-liter hybrid setup; the gas engine is competent but not exciting, while the hybrid is the more powerful and efficient option.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, speed limit assist, and leading vehicle departure alert.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, and two USB ports; a 10.25-inch screen is available, but it requires a wired phone connection for smartphone mirroring.
- Fuel efficiency: The gas model is rated at 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, or 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. The hybrid returns 37 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined, with the most efficient version reaching 38 mpg city/highway/combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Blue, and N-Line.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Tucson’s core design, standard safety tech, and wireless smartphone integration without pushing the price up. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Tucson, but you give up some convenience and upscale touches found higher up.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like satellite radio, Blue Link app compatibility, rear USB ports, rear air vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It also unlocks the Convenience Package, which brings many features from the top-tier Limited model.
- Blue: This trim is aimed at buyers who want the hybrid’s efficiency story and a more feature-rich daily driver. It adds the same kind of comfort and connectivity upgrades as the SEL/Blue step-up described in the equipment list, making it a smart pick if fuel economy matters most.
- N-Line: This is the style-forward choice, with sport combination seats and a darker, more distinctive wheel design. It suits you if you want the Tucson to feel more expressive inside and out, rather than simply practical.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,998 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,398, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $20,398 sits slightly below last year's $22,573.
That decline suggests the Tucson has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand stay healthy if you decide to sell later. A lower entry price can also make the vehicle easier to move in a competitive compact SUV market.
For future sellers, the key takeaway is that value-oriented pricing tends to support broader shopper interest. The Tucson’s strong equipment list and practical appeal should help it remain attractive, especially if it is well maintained and accident-free.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has not been tested and rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA).
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai SmartSense is the named driver-assistance suite, and its standard features include forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, speed limit assist, and leading vehicle departure alert. Higher trims can add blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring, forward and reverse park distance warning, parking collision avoidance assist, ultrasonic rear occupant alert, and remote parking assist.
The main caveat is that several of the more advanced safety and parking features are not standard on every trim, so you should confirm the exact equipment on the vehicle you are considering.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned model brings a roomier cabin and a more high-tech interior.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,503, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,398 average.
- It is the final model year of its generation and offers strong value with plenty of tech and safety features.
The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the redesigned Tucson’s extra space, updated cabin, and stronger overall appeal. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play and still gives you a well-equipped compact SUV.
