Used 2022 Hyundai Kona for Sale nearNewark, NJ

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Kona cost?

Prices have softened 7.43% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,872 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, safety features, and impressive tech, along with its sleek design and smooth handling. The Kona’s refreshed setup also gives you a more sophisticated look and a broader range of powertrain choices, including sporty variants for shoppers who want more personality.

The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited. Even so, if you want a small SUV that feels engaging and well-equipped rather than purely utilitarian, the Kona fits that brief well.

Good and great deals account for 32.1% of listings, which is a healthy sign for value-minded shoppers.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise centered on fun driving, safety features, and tech that owners can count on day to day. The Kona’s performance tuning also comes across as composed and stable, which supports confidence over time.

Hyundai’s complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles adds another ownership perk, and the warranty coverage is strong. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for properly, especially given the model’s more complex higher-output variants.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a full record review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on interior wear, cargo-area condition, and how well the vehicle’s features work. Since the Kona’s appeal depends heavily on equipment and trim content, make sure the specific car matches the features you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE is the most limited, while the N Line and Kona N add the most distinctive styling and sport-focused equipment. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to feature gaps, especially if you want more upscale convenience or a richer cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Kona N. Efficiency varies by drivetrain, with FWD models rated at 32 mpg combined, AWD models at 29-30 mpg combined, and the Kona N at 23 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning.
• Infotainment: The base model gets an 8-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and some versions also bring wireless device charging, a digital instrument cluster, and connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The gasoline lineup is rated at 32 mpg combined for FWD models, 29-30 mpg combined for AWD models, and 23 mpg combined for the Kona N. The Kona Electric is a separate path if efficiency is your top priority.

Which 2022 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, Limited, Kona N.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Kona formula with the 8-inch screen, wireless smartphone integration, and the standard safety basics. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is also the most stripped-down version.
• SEL: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like SiriusXM, HD Radio, and Hyundai Blue Link, and it can be paired with a Convenience Package that brings several comfort and convenience features. It is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it improves livability without pushing you into the sportier or pricier trims.
• N Line: This is the sweet spot if you want the strongest mix of style, tech, and value. It adds the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, a sportier look, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and available premium tech, making it the most compelling all-around pick.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the more upscale infotainment setup and standard premium audio, along with the richer equipment mix that comes with the higher trim. It is the right fit if comfort and tech matter more than price.
• Kona N: This is the performance-focused choice, with the most powerful engine, performance hardware, and exclusive driving features. Buy it only if you specifically want the sportiest Kona and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is limited on the base model, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, look closely at trims and option packages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,872 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.43% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,574, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $17,574 sits slightly below last year's $18,986.

That softer pricing suggests the Kona has become more approachable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, the current market indicates you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if your vehicle is not in excellent condition or lacks desirable equipment.

At the same time, the Kona’s strong value reputation and broad appeal can help support interest when you eventually sell. Well-equipped examples and cleaner-condition vehicles should hold up better than stripped-down or heavily worn ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for front and side crash protection and four-star rollover resistance.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available upgrades add adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning.

One caveat is that the Kona’s child-seat anchors received a Marginal rating from IIHS, which is worth noting if you regularly install child seats. That result also kept the Kona from earning Top Safety Pick status.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds updated styling, enhanced powertrains, and upgraded convenience, connectivity, and safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,372, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,574 average.
• It offers a playful, style-forward small crossover with strong handling and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed Kona with better tech, more powertrain variety, and stronger overall appeal, the 2022 is the better all-around choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains a smart alternative that keeps the Kona’s core personality intact.
