How much does the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, luxurious feel, and strong value for money, and they also highlight its great features and affordability compared with similar electric models. The Ioniq 5’s appeal is especially strong if you want a spacious EV with advanced tech and a distinctive design that still feels approachable for everyday use.

The main trade-offs are its potentially polarizing styling and fairly pedestrian performance. In practical terms, that means you’re buying it more for comfort, features, and EV usability than for outright speed.

With 38.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent chance to find a well-priced example.

Is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels smooth, dependable, and easy to live with, with many shoppers emphasizing its strong value and trouble-free everyday character. The expert review also reinforces that impression by describing the Ioniq 5 as a well-rounded EV with smart connectivity and a calm, composed driving experience.

Hyundai’s EV-focused tech and daily-use features add to the sense that this is built for long-term ownership, especially if you want a modern electric crossover that should be straightforward to count on. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the concept and more about making sure the specific car has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on an EV where charging behavior and software features matter as much as cosmetic condition. Focus on how the car has been used, whether it charges normally at home and on DC fast chargers, and whether all driver-assistance and infotainment features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, and Limited trims differ in equipment, with the top trim adding the massive moonroof and augmented-reality head-up display, while the mid-tier SEL adds hands-free lane changing. The base setup still gives you strong standard content, but the higher trims are where the most noticeable convenience and luxury upgrades live.
• Powertrain: Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available across the lineup. The extended-range rear-drive setup makes 225 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the AWD version uses a dual-motor system with 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense is standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and front- and rear-collision avoidance. Hyundai Highway Drive Assist I is also standard, bringing machine-learning adaptive cruise control with stop & go.
• Infotainment: The Ioniq 5 uses dual 12.3-inch screens, and the system includes wireless-style modern connectivity features such as over-the-air updates, a digital key, enhanced smartphone pairing, and voice recognition.
• Range & charging: The extended-range rear-drive model offers 303 miles of range, while AWD drops to 256 miles. Fast charging can take the battery to 80 percent in 18 minutes, and a full charge can take about 6 hours and 43 minutes on slower charging.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm normal charging behavior at home and on DC fast charging, and verify how much of the battery warranty remains. A clean charging history and consistent range are especially important here.

Which 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Ioniq 5’s core EV hardware, strong charging capability, and standard safety tech without paying for extra luxury features. It makes the most sense if you care more about the fundamentals than the premium touches.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience equipment, including hands-free lane changing, without jumping all the way to the top trim. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to look at first.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale version, including the moonroof and augmented-reality head-up display. It suits you best if you want the fullest feature set and are willing to pay for it.

Hyundai SmartSense and Highway Drive Assist I are standard across the lineup, so you get a strong safety baseline no matter which trim you choose.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 767 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,620, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5's resale value?

The current average of $21,928 sits slightly below last year's $23,235.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the higher prices seen a year ago.

The Ioniq 5’s strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 safe?

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has not yet received crash-test ratings from NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai SmartSense is standard and brings blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and front- and rear-collision avoidance. Hyundai Highway Drive Assist I is also standard, adding machine-learning adaptive cruise control with stop & go for a more advanced driver-assistance setup.

One caveat is that the augmented-reality head-up display can be distracting in actual use, depending on your seating position and how it’s adjusted. Even so, the Ioniq 5’s standard safety equipment is a major strength, especially for a used EV shopper who wants a well-equipped daily driver.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out as Hyundai’s debut EV from its new sub-brand, with standout technology, standard advanced safety features, and a mainstream-friendly price point.

The bottom line: The 2022 is a smart choice if you want the original Ioniq 5 formula at a softer used-car price, especially if you value technology, safety, and a roomy cabin over outright performance. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year’s inventory and focus on the best-maintained examples rather than chasing a newer model year.
