Is the 2022 Genesis G80 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Genesis G80 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The 2022 Genesis G80 is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans into a quiet cabin, great ride quality, and premium interior materials. It aims to deliver the polished feel you expect in this class while standing out with a bold design that may not suit every taste.

Trade-offs: the technology can be unintuitive, and the design is potentially polarizing.

For a luxury sedan shopper who values comfort and upscale cabin execution, it makes a strong case. Good and great deals account for 31.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Genesis G80 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Genesis G80 is described as a mature, well-built luxury sedan, and Genesis’ reputation is tied to quality and reliability. Its standard safety and driver-assistance equipment also suggests a well-rounded ownership experience, especially for highway use.

The powertrain lineup is straightforward, with a turbocharged four-cylinder or twin-turbo V6 paired to an eight-speed automatic, and the brand backs the car with generous warranty coverage and complimentary maintenance. That combination helps reduce early ownership stress and supports confidence in used-car shopping.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about making sure the car’s technology and condition have been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Genesis G80?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, then prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin electronics, exterior trim, and overall condition. Because the G80’s technology is a major part of the ownership experience, it’s worth making sure every feature works as intended before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5T starts with rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is optional; V6 models come standard with AWD. The cabin is defined by premium materials and a bold design, but the base setup leaves you with fewer luxury touches than the higher trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, both paired with an eight-speed automatic. The four-cylinder is rated at 23 mpg city/32 mpg highway/26 mpg combined with RWD or 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined with AWD, while the V6 is rated at 17 mpg city/26 mpg highway/20 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist with road edge detection, lane-following assist, and driver attention warning. All of these safety features and systems are standard on every G80.
• Infotainment: The G80 uses a 14.5-inch high-definition LCD display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Genesis Connected Services, and native navigation. Wireless device charging is optional on 2.5T models and standard on 3.5T models.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder models return 23 mpg city/32 mpg highway/26 mpg combined with RWD or 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined with AWD, while the V6 returns 17 mpg city/26 mpg highway/20 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Genesis G80 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Genesis G80 is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.5T, 2.5T Advanced, 2.5T Prestige, 3.5T Sport, and 3.5T Sport Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5T: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core G80 experience at the lowest starting price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the luxury-sedan look and feel without stretching for extra equipment.
• 2.5T Advanced: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of equipment and price. It builds on the base car with more comfort and convenience content while staying on the four-cylinder side of the lineup.
• 2.5T Prestige: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel from the four-cylinder model and are willing to pay for it. It’s the most luxurious version of the 2.5T lineup.
• 3.5T Sport: This is the performance-oriented choice, pairing the V6 with standard AWD. It suits you if you want the strongest acceleration and a more powerful driving experience.
• 3.5T Sport Prestige: Pick this if you want the most fully equipped version of the V6 model. It adds the richest feature set and is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most from the G80.

All of the G80’s safety features and systems are standard on every trim, so you do not need to move up the lineup to get the core driver-assistance package.

Should I buy a 2022 Genesis G80 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 G80 combines a quiet cabin, great ride quality, and premium interior materials with strong safety results.

Consider the 2021 if:

• The redesigned 2021 G80 introduced the current generation with stylish design, premium materials, and strong technology.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better all-around pick if you want the more mature version of this generation with strong safety, solid value, and a well-rounded luxury feel. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2021 can still make sense because it delivers the same basic redesign and core appeal at an earlier model-year price point.
