Used 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 for Sale near Virginia

How much does the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 10.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,312 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, and excellent features. They also highlight the strong powertrains and the upscale feel, which fits the Sierra’s more premium positioning.

On the downside, the expert review points to poor ergonomic design and poor fuel economy. That means you may love the refinement and capability, but you should still make sure the cabin layout works for you in daily use.

For shoppers who want a full-size truck that feels more premium than basic, the Sierra’s mix of comfort, tech, and utility makes it a strong fit. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for strong engines and comfort that should hold up well over time. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the truck as powerful and comfortable to drive, with a smooth ride that supports everyday use.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is making sure the truck’s condition matches its premium positioning, especially on higher-spec examples that may have seen harder use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-specific record. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and signs of heavy work-truck use. Since this truck is positioned as a more upscale pickup, interior wear and feature operation matter just as much as mechanical condition.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sierra lineup includes Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. The base Pro is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more premium materials, larger wheels, and more distinctive styling.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six, a 5.3-liter V8, or a 6.2-liter V8. The turbo-four makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel and V8s are paired with a 10-speed automatic.
• Safety package: GMC Pro Safety includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist, a following distance indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic headlights. Super Cruise is standard only on Denali Ultimate.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in. Wireless device charging is standard, and Sierra AT4 and Denali trims include three years of complimentary service.
• Fuel efficiency: The AT4X is rated at 13 city, 17 highway, and 14 combined mpg.

Which 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Sierra’s core capability at the lowest price, but it will feel the most basic compared with the rest of the lineup.
• SLE: This is the value-minded step up if you want more everyday usability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Elevation: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look while staying below the luxury-focused trims.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more premium feel without going all the way to the high-end models.
• AT4: Pick this if you want the off-road-oriented personality and a tougher appearance.
• Denali: This is the right choice if you want the classic upscale Sierra experience with more luxury content.
• AT4X: Choose this if you want the most capable off-road-focused version with a luxury cabin.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top pick if you want the most premium Sierra, including the most advanced tech and the highest-end interior treatment.

The safety package starts with GMC Pro Safety, while Super Cruise is limited to the Denali Ultimate.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,312 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,378, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,378 sits slightly below last year's $45,016.

That price movement suggests the Sierra has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 received mostly “Good” crash safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but it earned a “Marginal” grade in the front-passenger small overlap test and a “Poor” grade for headlights.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

GMC Pro Safety is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist, a following distance indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic headlights. Super Cruise is a standout feature, but it is limited to the Denali Ultimate and is standard there.

The weaker IIHS headlight result is the main caution point here, so you should pay close attention to lighting equipment and trim-level differences when comparing used listings.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a major redesign with more upscale styling, a richer cabin, and new high-end trims.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $33,923, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,378 average.
• It offers familiar capability with unique features like an optional carbon-fiber composite cargo bed.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,758, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,378 average.
• It pushes Sierra luxury further with the Denali Ultimate as the headline upgrade.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of updated design, premium features, and current-market pricing, the 2022 is the strongest all-around choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the newer luxury-focused direction.
