How much does the 2022 GMC Canyon cost?

There are 1,505 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Canyon options to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.8/5, and the expert rating is 6.3/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, responsive handling, and low road noise. You also see repeated positives around interior quality and the truck’s easy, enjoyable driving character in both city use and off-road settings.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and some shoppers want more performance-enhancing equipment. The Canyon fits you best if you want a midsize pickup with a more premium feel than many rivals and a manageable footprint for everyday use.

With 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck you can count on for a smooth, trouble-free driving experience, with praise centered on its dependable ride quality and solid day-to-day usability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Canyon offers plenty of capability for most buyers, which supports confidence in regular ownership.

GMC also covers the cost of the first scheduled maintenance visit, which helps soften early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-mileage examples may show the effects of a truck that was used hard or skipped on maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a documented history. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering an AT4 or a truck with added equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you are shopping.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Canyon’s trim ladder starts with a basic Elevation Standard that lacks advanced driver aids, while higher trims add more premium materials and equipment. The Denali brings the most upscale cabin treatment, and the AT4 adds a more rugged, off-road-oriented look and feel.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 200-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6, or a 181-hp 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder with 369 pound-feet of torque. The base engine is adequate but uninspiring, while the V6 and diesel deliver stronger capability.
• Safety package: The Driver Alert package includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking assistance. It is available on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali, but rear park assist is only available on models equipped with leather seats.
• Infotainment: The base truck gets a 7-inch color touchscreen, while the Elevation adds an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth streaming audio and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The AT4 adds wireless smartphone charging, and the Denali adds navigation and a high-definition rearview camera.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder returns 22 mpg combined, or 21 mpg with 4WD. The turbodiesel gets 23 mpg combined in RWD form and 22 mpg with 4WD, while the V6 returns 21 mpg combined in RWD and 19 mpg with 4WD.

Which 2022 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Canyon’s core truck basics at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the most affordable path into the model, but you give up advanced driver aids and some of the nicer cabin and tech upgrades found higher up.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while staying below the more expensive off-road and luxury trims. If you want a balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the one to start with.
• AT4: This is the right pick if you want the Canyon’s off-road-focused character. It adds rugged styling, off-road hardware, wireless charging, and a more premium-feeling cabin, making it the best fit if you want capability and personality together.
• Denali: This is the upscale choice, with the most premium look and feel, plus navigation, a high-definition rearview camera, and standard Driver Alert features. Choose it if you want the most luxurious Canyon experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is available on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali, but rear park assist requires leather seats.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,505 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $29,495 sits slightly below last year's $31,810.

That price movement suggests the Canyon has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you reduce the amount of value left to lose over your ownership period.

The truck’s premium positioning can help it hold appeal with shoppers who want a midsize pickup that feels more upscale than basic. Strong owner satisfaction also supports demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2022 GMC Canyon earned a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also earned the highest-possible "Good" ratings in most IIHS crash tests, but received a "Poor" rating in the front passenger-side small overlap structure and safety cage test.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety story is mixed. The base Elevation Standard does not include advanced driver aids, though it does have tire-fill alert and Teen Driver. The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking assistance, and it is available on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali.

The Canyon’s weak spots are important to note: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping or lane-centering assistance are not available. IIHS also gave the truck a "Poor" rating for headlights, a "Basic" rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention, and a "Marginal" rating for LATCH anchors.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new Denali Black Edition package and renames High Elevation as Elevation Premium.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,588, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,495 average.
• It adds a refreshed face and a new AT4 trim.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $37,763, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $29,495 average.
• It brings a redesigned, more upscale Canyon with stronger tech and a clearer premium identity.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the safer default. If price is your top priority, the 2021 can save you money. If you want a more upscale redesign and can spend more, the 2023 is the stronger upgrade path.
