How much does the 2022 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 6.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,543 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon a good car?

Yes — with a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating, the 2022 GMC Canyon lands as a well-liked midsize pickup with broad appeal. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, responsive handling, impressive interior quality, and low road noise. They also like how it handles in high-speed corners, which supports the Canyon’s appeal if you want a truck that feels easy to live with day to day.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and some buyers wanted more performance enhancements. The Canyon makes the most sense if you want a smaller-footprint truck with a premium feel rather than a full-size pickup.

With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels smooth, responsive, and enjoyable to drive over time, with praise for its low road noise and solid interior quality. That kind of feedback usually lines up with a vehicle you can count on for everyday use.

The expert evaluation also points to a capable, steady truck that feels solid both on and off the pavement. GMC also covers the cost of the first scheduled maintenance visit, which helps soften early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re looking at an AT4 or a higher-mileage example, since equipment and usage can vary a lot. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the truck’s features match the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation Standard keeps things simple with a 7-inch touchscreen and no advanced driver aids, while higher trims add more premium touches and equipment. Denali brings the most upscale cabin treatment, and AT4 adds a more rugged look and off-road-oriented hardware.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 200-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 308-hp 3.6-liter V6, or a 181-hp 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder with 369 pound-feet of torque. The base engine is adequate but uninspiring, while the V6 and diesel are the stronger choices for capability.
• Safety package: The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking assistance. It’s available on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali, but rear park assist is only available on models equipped with leather seats.
• Infotainment: The base truck gets a 7-inch color touchscreen, while the Elevation adds an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth streaming audio plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. AT4 adds wireless smartphone charging, and Denali adds navigation and a high-definition rearview camera.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder returns 22 mpg combined, or 21 mpg with 4WD. The turbodiesel gets 23 mpg combined with RWD and 22 mpg with 4WD, while the V6 returns 21 mpg combined with RWD and 19 mpg with 4WD.

Which 2022 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the value entry point, but it’s also the most stripped-down version. You get the basics, yet you give up advanced driver aids and the larger touchscreen found higher up the range.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while staying below the off-road and luxury trims.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the rugged look and off-road hardware, plus premium touches like leather seating and the wireless charging pad. It’s the right pick if you want the Canyon to feel more adventurous.
• Denali: This is the upscale choice, with the most premium cabin presentation, navigation, a high-definition rearview camera, and the Driver Alert package standard. It suits you best if comfort and features matter more than price.

The Driver Alert package is available on the Elevation and AT4 and standard on the Denali, but rear park assist is only available on models equipped with leather seats.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Canyon?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep discounts on every listing.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,543 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,164, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $30,164 sits slightly below last year's $32,342.

That softer pricing suggests the Canyon has moved into a more buyer-friendly range, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment rather than broad market momentum.

The good news is that the Canyon still has a strong owner satisfaction profile, and that tends to support demand in the used market. Well-kept examples with desirable features should remain easier to move than stripped-down trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2022 GMC Canyon earns four-star ratings for frontal crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings for side protection from NHTSA.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The Canyon’s standard safety equipment is limited on the base trim, which does not include advanced driver aids. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking assistance, and it becomes standard on the Denali. Rear park assist is only available on models equipped with leather seats.

There are also some notable gaps: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, and lane-keeping or lane-centering assistance are not available. IIHS also flagged weak points, including a Poor rating in the front passenger-side small overlap structure and safety cage test, a Poor rating for headlights, a Basic rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention, and a Marginal rating for LATCH anchors.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances midsize-truck convenience with multiple powertrains, easy-to-use tech, and a more premium feel than many rivals.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,813, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $30,164 average.
• It adds a refreshed look and an AT4 trim while keeping the Canyon’s familiar midsize-truck formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $38,629, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $30,164 average.
• It brings a redesigned, more upscale Canyon with stronger tech and a broader off-road lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the safer buy. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while keeping the Canyon’s core strengths. If you want the newest design and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the upgrade path to consider.
