Summary
With 83 currently listed for sale near Norfolk, VA and an average price of $23,079.00, 50.6% of 2022 Ford Mavericks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Ford Maverick stands out as Ford’s most approachable pickup, and it does so by shrinking the truck formula without abandoning it. It is the smallest Ford truck in over a decade, uses car-like unibody construction for greater refinement, and emphasizes fuel economy with an available hybrid powertrain. That combination gives it a different character from larger, more traditional pickups: it is meant to be easier to live with while still feeling like a real truck.
Ford also kept the Maverick simple, which is part of its appeal. The 2022 Ford Maverick is available in just three trim levels—XL, XLT, and Lariat—with a single bed length and cab configuration. That straightforward lineup helps reinforce its value-focused mission, and the test-drive notes back that up with praise for its great ride quality, excellent value for money, and standard hybrid powertrain. At the same time, the older infotainment system is a drawback, and the limited options on lower trims may leave some buyers wanting more.

I absolutely love this vehicle- I bought it as it is a hybrid small pick up truck. The only thing I wish is that it had cruise control. I understand the XLT models do have it, my XL does not. This is the first Ford I have owned in 30+ years, the competitors do not have any models similar. No small chevy, dodge pickups on the market....

Is the 2022 Ford Maverick a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Ford Maverick earns a 4.65/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its compact size, fuel efficiency, and value for money, and many also like how practical it is for urban use and everyday tasks. The trade-offs are the older infotainment system and limited options on lower trims.
That fits the Maverick’s use case well: you’re looking at a small, approachable pickup that aims to be easier to live with than a traditional truck while still feeling useful. Good and great deals make up 30.1% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a truck that feels practical, efficient, and easy to live with over time, with many drivers describing it as a smart everyday choice. The expert notes reinforce that impression by emphasizing the Maverick’s refined, car-like driving character and smooth hybrid power delivery.
Ford’s three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty help support ownership confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the concept and more about finding one that hasn’t been neglected, modified, or overpriced.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Maverick?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re shopping a higher-mileage example or one with signs of heavy use. Focus on overall condition, because the Maverick’s appeal depends heavily on whether it still feels like a well-kept, value-oriented truck.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add alloy wheels and available luxury packages with a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and heated seats. If you want more comfort and fewer compromises, the upper trims are the safer bet.
- Powertrain: You get a standard hybrid with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, single electric motor, and CVT, or an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with more power and an eight-speed automatic. The hybrid is the smoother, more refined choice, while the turbo engine brings more towing capability and available AWD.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and evasive steering assist are optional extras.
- Infotainment: The Maverick uses an 8-inch touchscreen with the older Sync 3 system, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a built-in WiFi hotspot for up to 10 devices. Wireless phone mirroring is not included.
- Fuel efficiency: Ford advertises 40 mpg city for the hybrid, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost is expected to return 26 mpg combined with FWD or 25 mpg combined with AWD.
Which 2022 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2022 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the value play if you want the Maverick’s core appeal at the lowest entry point. It still gets the standard hybrid powertrain, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Ford Co-Pilot360 basics, so you’re not giving up the truck’s main strengths.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday polish without pushing you into luxury pricing. It’s also where available comfort upgrades and more equipment make the Maverick feel less bare-bones.
- Lariat: Choose this if you want the most upscale Maverick experience and are willing to pay for it. It’s the trim that best suits buyers who care more about comfort and convenience than keeping the price as low as possible.
The safety package starts with Ford Co-Pilot360, while more advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Maverick?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,351 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.48% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,542.30, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Ford Maverick's resale value?
The current average of $23,818 sits slightly below last year's $26,025.
That softer pricing can work in your favor if you’re buying now, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the truck holds demand. If you keep mileage reasonable and the condition clean, you’re more likely to preserve value than if you buy a rough example at a weak price.
The Maverick’s value story is still supported by its strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as a practical, fuel-conscious pickup. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Ford Maverick safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and evasive steering assist are available as extras rather than standard equipment.
Crash-test ratings were not available yet in the source material, so there’s no published IIHS or NHTSA result to lean on here. That means you should pay close attention to the specific safety equipment on the truck you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 Maverick stands out as Ford’s approachable, value-focused pickup with a standard hybrid powertrain.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $27,086, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,818 average.
- It adds the Tremor package for buyers who want a more off-road-oriented small truck.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and a simpler shopping experience, the 2022 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a broader personality and want the added off-road-oriented option, the 2023 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2022’s lower average price and softer market make it the more compelling path.
