Is the 2022 Ford Maverick a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Ford Maverick earns a 4.7/5 user rating, and our experts rate it 8.2/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its compact size, fuel efficiency, and value for money, and they also like how practical it is for everyday tasks, especially in urban settings. The Maverick’s straightforward setup and useful features help it feel approachable, while the available hybrid powertrain adds to its appeal. The main trade-offs are the older infotainment system and the fact that lower trims leave out some features buyers may expect.

For shoppers who want a small pickup that feels easy to live with and useful without being complicated, the Maverick fits that brief well. Good and great deals account for 34.3% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Ford Maverick reliable?

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, efficient, and practical enough to count on for daily use, with many buyers appreciating its trouble-free character and overall value. The expert review also emphasizes the Maverick’s refined, car-like driving feel and smooth hybrid power delivery, which supports the impression of an easy-to-live-with truck. Ford’s three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty add some ownership reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure a truck that was used hard or modified still has been maintained properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Maverick?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper report. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering. Pay close attention to condition on lower trims, since owner feedback suggests some buyers wish more basic features had been included.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL gets 17-inch steel wheels, while higher trims get 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. Luxury packages on XLT and Lariat add a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and heated seats, and the Lariat can also be paired with a First Edition package that adds black graphics, a soft tonneau cover, and model-specific wheels and paint colors.
• Powertrain: The standard hybrid uses a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor and CVT, making 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. An optional EcoBoost 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 250 hp and 277 lb-ft and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid is front-wheel drive only, while the EcoBoost can be paired with all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and evasive steering assist are optional extras.
• Infotainment: The Maverick uses the older Sync 3 system with an 8-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and no wireless versions. It also includes a built-in WiFi hotspot that can support up to 10 devices.
• Fuel efficiency: Ford advertises 40 mpg city for the hybrid, and the EcoBoost is expected to return 26 mpg combined with FWD or 25 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2022 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?

The 2022 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the value play if you want the Maverick’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. It still gets the standard hybrid powertrain, the basic but functional Sync 3 setup, and the truck’s distinctive interior character, making it the best-value trim for most shoppers.
• XLT: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and price. It opens the door to more available comfort and convenience upgrades, including the luxury package content, while staying below the top trim’s pricing.
• Lariat: This is the right choice if you want the most upscale Maverick experience. It adds the richest available feature set and can be paired with the First Edition package, but you’ll pay more for the extra content.

Ford’s safety package is standard across the lineup, while several driver-assistance features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Maverick?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,287 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,210, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Ford Maverick's resale value?

The current average of $23,241 sits slightly below last year's $25,180.

That price movement suggests the Maverick has softened enough to create a more favorable buying window now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if prices stay near current levels. If demand remains steady, the truck’s practical appeal and efficient powertrain should help support interest from used buyers. Strong owner satisfaction can also help keep demand healthy over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Ford Maverick safe?

The 2022 Ford Maverick earns no published IIHS or NHTSA crash-test rating in the provided data.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and evasive steering assist are available as extras rather than standard equipment. That means you should check carefully whether a used truck has the safety features you want, especially on lower trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its approachable pickup formula, unibody refinement, and available hybrid efficiency.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,765, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,241 average.
• The Tremor package adds a more adventurous off-road-oriented option.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for the added Tremor package, the 2023 is the better fit for buyers who want a little more capability and personality.
