2021 Ford Escape
SE FWD

$17,460
Overview

The 2022 Ford Escape is a spacious, efficient compact SUV with intuitive technology and clean, handsome styling. The Escape was fully redesigned in 2020. It carries over to 2022 largely unchanged. The Escape provides up to 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. With the rear seats in use, it provides 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space.
Trims for the Escape are S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The S comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench that slides fore and aft, a six-speaker stereo, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 4.2-inch instrument panel screen, and a 4.2-inch audio display with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
Moving up to the SE adds an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, satellite radio, push-button start, and remote keyless entry. An available Convenience Package adds dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a power rear liftgate.
The SEL trim brings niceties such as LED signature lighting, exterior keypad access, dual chrome exhaust tips, remote start, and all the features from the Convenience Package. It also adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. This trim is available with a Technology Package that adds a hands-free power liftgate, wireless device charging, a fully digital instrument panel, and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system. The range-topping Titanium trim adds some features from the Technology Package, as well as leather upholstery, navigation, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat.
The base engine in the Escape is a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower. It routes power to the front wheels, or to all four if buyers opt for available all-wheel drive. The upgraded engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to all-wheel drive. Both engines route power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Ford also offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the Escape—these are covered in separate reviews. When properly equipped, the Escape can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
The most efficient version of the Ford Escape pairs the 1.5-liter engine with front-wheel drive. It returns 28 mpg city, 34 highway, and 30 combined. With this engine and all-wheel drive, the Escape returns 26 mpg city, 31 highway, and 28 combined. The 2.0-liter engine with all-wheel drive returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined.
The Escape comes with a terrific list of standard driver assistance features, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Available safety tech includes lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, and traffic-sign recognition.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Ford Escape is $26,510 for the base S trim. The Escape SE starts at $27,895, and the SEL starts at $30,220. The range-topping Titanium trim starts at $36,630. The Ford Escape is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

This was loaded with features and it was a great value. It is only missing side steps. I am short and it is high for me.

I think it is a little bit pricey being it from 2021. During turns, the car was a little hard, but overall the car is super luxurious for me. Smooth driving.

How much does the 2022 Ford Escape cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,756 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,756 |
| Year-Round High | $21,532 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,535 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.90% |
Prices have softened 12.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 5,868 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2022 Ford Escape a good car?
Yes — the 4.7/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. That kind of feedback suggests you’re looking at a used SUV that many owners have found easy to live with. The market also shows 32.5% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Ford Escape reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, that usually means lower ownership anxiety if the vehicle has been maintained well and checked carefully before purchase.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Escape?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still review the report closely for prior damage, title issues, and service gaps. Put the inspection first on the list, especially if the vehicle has higher mileage or incomplete maintenance records. Focus on overall condition, since a clean history does not replace a thorough mechanical and cosmetic check.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Escape?
This looks like a moderate market where careful shoppers can still find value if they compare listings closely.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 5,868 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.90% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,756, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Ford Escape's resale value?
The current average of $18,756 sits slightly below last year's $21,535.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation matter even more because buyers will compare your listing against a large pool of similar vehicles. A well-kept example with clean history should still be easier to move than one with visible wear or missing records.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Escape or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.90% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $15,720, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,756 average.
- It keeps the same practical formula with only minor updates.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $22,718, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,756 average.
- It adds more tech and a more upscale feel.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around starting point if you want a balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the smarter value play; if you want newer features and can spend more, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
