How much does the 2022 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 11.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,229 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW X3 earns a 4.9/5 user rating, and its expert rating is 7.8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

You get a comfortable ride, stylish design, and high-quality features, along with quiet performance and added safety equipment. The X3 also fits buyers who want a well-established luxury compact crossover with broad appeal and everyday usability.

The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine and poor fuel economy. Some drivers also found the size a bit larger than necessary for their needs.

With 39.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers consistently describe it as comfortable, stylish, and high-quality, and the feedback also points to quiet performance and added safety features. The expert drive notes reinforce that it feels composed, quiet, and compliant in everyday use.

BMW also highlights smoother start/stop operation from the mild-hybrid system on six-cylinder models, which can help the driving experience feel more refined. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is less about outright durability than about higher ownership costs and the possibility that fuel economy may disappoint you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has higher mileage or optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, because the X3’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 sDrive30i is the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the other trims are all-wheel drive only. The cabin includes features such as eight-way power-adjustable front Sport seats, adjustable side bolsters, tri-zone automatic climate control, and new perforated SensaTec synthetic leather upholstery, with premium Vernasca leather available on sDrive30i models and up. The M Sport Package adds a more aggressive exterior treatment, while the M40i brings more standard equipment and a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The M40i upgrades to a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system, producing 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, and side collision avoidance.
• Infotainment: BMW Live Cockpit Plus with iDrive 7 includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch color display instrument panel, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa integration, two USB ports, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and over-the-air updates. Live Cockpit Professional expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive30i is rated at 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The xDrive30i returns 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The M40i is rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and the only rear-wheel-drive version. It gives you the core X3 experience with the standard tech and safety equipment, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need AWD.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same 2.0-liter turbo-four and most of the same equipment. If you want the broadest balance of traction, efficiency, and price, this is the trim to focus on.
• M40i: This is the performance-oriented step up, with the 3.0-liter turbo-six, mild-hybrid system, and more standard equipment. It suits you if you want the strongest acceleration and a more engaging drive.
• M: This is the top performance model, but the provided data does not detail its equipment beyond its place in the lineup.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, and the available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds even more advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,229 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,888, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $27,888 sits slightly below last year's $31,501.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 earns a five-star crash safety rating from NHTSA, and the 2018 X3 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, and side collision avoidance.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,596, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,888 average.
• It offers a spacious interior with solid driving dynamics and broad technology.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the refreshed model with stronger equipment and better market leverage. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 remains a sensible alternative because it still delivers the core X3 strengths at a lower price.
