How much does the 2022 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 11.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,199 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW X3 earns a 4.9/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It also earns an expert rating of 7.8/10.

The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, stylish design, and high-quality features, and they also appreciate the added safety features and quiet performance. In use-case terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a compact luxury crossover that feels upscale, practical, and easy to live with.

The main trade-offs are its poor fuel economy and an underwhelming base engine, so it is less compelling if efficiency or quick acceleration is your top priority. Even so, the market still shows 39.0% good or great deals, which is a solid availability signal.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe the X3 as comfortable, quiet, and well-equipped, and the expert drive notes that it feels compliant over bumps and quiet enough to drown out city sounds. That combination points to a crossover you can count on for everyday use, especially if you value a smooth, settled driving experience.

BMW also adds a broad set of standard safety and driver-assistance features, which supports confidence in daily ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium maintenance and repair costs can still be higher than you might expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or vehicles with multiple owners. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, tire wear, brake wear, and whether the cabin and electronics show signs of heavy use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 sDrive30i is the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the other trims are all-wheel drive only. The lineup also adds M Sport styling on some trims, and the M40i brings more performance-oriented exterior cues and standard equipment.
• Powertrain: The base models use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The M40i steps up to a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and 382 hp.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, side collision avoidance, and Active Driving Assistant.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch digital instrument display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, over-the-air updates, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. An optional upgrade expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive model is rated at 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the all-wheel-drive version returns 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The M40i is rated at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and the only rear-wheel-drive version, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and still want the core X3 experience. It gets the standard tech and safety equipment, but it is also the trim most clearly tied to the underwhelming base-engine trade-off.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same core equipment and price structure relatively accessible. If you want the broadest balance of traction, features, and everyday usability, this is the one to target.
• M40i: This is the clear step-up if you want stronger performance, a six-cylinder engine, and more standard equipment. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than fuel economy.
• M: This trim is the most performance-focused version in the lineup and is the one to choose if you want the most aggressive X3 character. It is the least about value and most about capability and enthusiast appeal.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, with even the standard model getting a long list of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 39.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,199 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,692, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $27,692 sits slightly below last year's $31,351.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation curve.

The X3’s broad appeal, strong feature content, and high owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the 2018 X3 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, side collision avoidance, and Active Driving Assistant.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,333, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,692 average.
• It offers a spacious interior with solid driving dynamics and a wealth of technology.

The bottom line: If you want the newer refresh, stronger safety content, and broader market selection, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains a smart alternative because it still delivers the core X3 strengths at a lower price.
