Used 2022 BMW M5 for Sale near Connecticut

Is the 2022 BMW M5 a good car?

Generally — you rate it 4/5, and CarGurus experts rate it 9/10. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

The 2022 BMW M5 stands out because the only update is the M5 CS, described as Bavaria’s most powerful and most engaging production model yet. That makes this year especially appealing if you want the M5 nameplate at its most extreme, with a focus on speed and driver involvement rather than incremental change.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and limited cargo space, plus no manual transmission. Even so, the market shows 36.6% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW M5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 BMW M5 is presented as a high-performance luxury sedan that still blends serious speed with everyday usability. Its twin-turbo V8, eight-speed automatic transmission, and rear-biased xDrive setup point to a drivetrain built for both traction and consistency. The expert evaluation also describes the car as controlled and confidence-inspiring, with performance that feels precise rather than unruly.

The performance notes emphasize that the M5 CS is purpose-built and mechanically focused, while the cost-effectiveness notes make clear that ownership is not cheap. If you buy used, the biggest long-term risk is ending up with a neglected or heavily modified example that has been driven hard without proper care.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW M5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any car you’re considering, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear from hard driving, brake condition, and signs of track use. Because this is a high-performance sedan, condition matters more than mileage alone. Pay close attention to whether the car has been maintained consistently and whether any modifications were made.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The M5 CS is the standout here, with extensive carbon-fiber use, bronze exterior accents, M carbon racing seats, and a four-seat layout instead of five. It is the most extreme version, while the standard M5 and M5 Competition are less specialized and more conventional in their cabin and exterior treatment.
• Powertrain: Across the lineup, you get an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic and rear-wheel-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive. The standard M5 uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 600 horsepower, while the M5 CS is tuned to 627 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, city collision mitigation, rear collision preparation, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. The available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keep assist with collision avoidance, evasion aid, front cross-traffic alert, emergency stop assistant, and Extended Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get 12.3-inch digital displays for both the instrument cluster and center touchscreen, Live Cockpit Professional with iDrive 7, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and WiFi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The M5 is EPA rated at 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 17 combined mpg.

Which 2022 BMW M5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW M5 is offered in 3 trim levels: M5, M5 Competition, M5 CS.

Here's the short version:

• M5: This is the least expensive path into the lineup and still gives you the core M5 formula: a 600-horsepower twin-turbo V8, rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive, and a full set of standard tech and safety features. It’s the best fit if you want the M5 experience without paying for the more specialized versions.
• M5 Competition: This trim adds a bit more output and a sharper setup than the standard M5, making it the middle-ground choice if you want more performance without going all the way to the CS. It’s the one to consider if you want the strongest balance of capability and everyday usability.
• M5 CS: This is the most focused and most powerful version, with 627 horsepower, lighter weight, carbon-ceramic brakes, track-ready hardware, and a four-seat cabin. It suits you best if you want the most extreme M5 and are willing to give up some practicality for exclusivity and performance.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds the most advanced driver-assistance features, while the M5 CS gives you a more stripped-back setup with cruise control but not adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW M5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile examples.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 93 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 78.5% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2022 BMW M5 safe?

The 2022 BMW M5 has not been crash tested by NHTSA, and the IIHS last rated the related 2017 5 Series with Good results in most evaluations and Acceptable results for LATCH child seat anchors and passenger-side lower foot injuries.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, city collision mitigation, rear collision preparation, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. The available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keep assist with collision avoidance, evasion aid, front cross-traffic alert, emergency stop assistant, and Extended Traffic Jam Assist. The Executive Package adds Parking Assistance Plus, active park distance control, drive recorder, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

The M5 CS trims back some convenience-oriented safety hardware, with cruise control but not adaptive cruise control and only a regular rearview camera. That makes it the least forgiving version if you want the most driver-assistance support.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model’s defining change is the M5 CS, a 2022-only, track-ready variant with 627 horsepower and a sub-3-second sprint to 60 mph.

The bottom line: If you want the most extreme version of this generation, the 2022 is the year to target because the M5 CS makes it uniquely special. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may make more sense, but you’ll want to compare carefully against the 2022’s standout performance-focused update.
