With 35.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The A4’s appeal comes from its rock-solid structure, refined driving character, and modern technology, all of which suggest a well-sorted ownership experience. It also impressed in testing despite being over half a decade old, which points to a car that still feels current.

Its dependability story is helped by the fact that the powertrain is described as refined and the car remains quiet, composed, and unflappable in daily driving. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you should still verify condition carefully, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Audi A4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a vehicle history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the car’s condition and equipment level. Pay close attention to signs of prior damage, tire and brake wear, and whether the car matches the trim and feature set you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the A4 sedan, the A4 Allroad, and an S4 performance-tuned model, while the A4 itself comes in 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI model series and Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. The base setup is more affordable, but the more appealing equipment and stronger feature content arrive as you move up the range.
• Powertrain: The 40 TFSI uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, while the 45 TFSI brings 261 hp and 273 lb-ft. Both use a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic and standard Quattro Ultra AWD, and the 40 TFSI returns 29 mpg in combined driving while the 45 TFSI is rated at 27 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Higher-spec versions add lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, Park Assist, and Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.
• Infotainment: The A4 uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Audi Connect connected services. It also offers wireless smartphone charging, navigation, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 40 TFSI earns 29 mpg in combined driving, while the 45 TFSI is rated at 27 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Audi A4 is offered in 6 trim levels: 40 TFSI Premium, 40 TFSI Premium Plus, 40 TFSI Prestige, 45 TFSI Premium, 45 TFSI Premium Plus, and 45 TFSI Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• 40 TFSI Premium: This is the entry point if you want the lowest price and standard AWD, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and other core luxury features. It makes the most sense if you want the A4 experience without stretching for extra equipment.
• 40 TFSI Premium Plus: This is the best-value choice if you want a stronger mix of equipment and price, since it builds on the base car without jumping all the way to the top. It is the trim to focus on if you want a more complete daily driver.
• 40 TFSI Prestige: This is the right pick if you want the fullest feature set in the more affordable engine lineup, including the most advanced driver-assistance and convenience content.
• 45 TFSI Premium: Choose this if you want the stronger turbo-four and the more rewarding driving character without immediately moving to the highest trim. It is the better fit if performance matters more than maximizing equipment.
• 45 TFSI Premium Plus: This is the sweet spot for many shoppers because it combines the stronger engine with a richer feature set. If you want the best balance of value, performance, and equipment, this is the trim to target.
• 45 TFSI Prestige: This is the top choice if you want the most complete A4, including the most advanced safety and convenience features. It suits you best if you want the strongest all-around package and are willing to pay for it.

Audi stair-steps availability of the A4’s safety features, so the more you spend, the more driver-assistance equipment you get.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Audi A4?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 646 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,521, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $22,521 sits slightly below last year's $26,452.

That drop suggests the A4 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for a future seller to attract interest at a competitive price. The current market also shows that the car still has meaningful demand, especially because it combines strong technology with a premium driving feel.

If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, the A4’s broad appeal should help it remain marketable. A lower entry price today can also make it easier to position the car competitively later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 safe?

The 2022 Audi A4 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The A4 also offers lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, Park Assist, and Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

Audi does stair-step safety availability by trim, so the more you spend, the more of the advanced driver-assistance suite you get. One caveat from testing is that the adaptive cruise control could react a bit slowly in changing traffic conditions, so you should stay attentive even with the system engaged.

Should I buy a 2022 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model stands out for its rock-solid structure, modern technology, and strong safety ratings.

The bottom line: If you want a used A4 that still feels current, the 2022 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth a look, but the 2022 gives you a strong mix of technology, safety, and value in today’s market.
