The Acura NSX is a world-class supercar that proves exotic cars can be comfortable and daily-drivable vehicles. After a more than 10-year absence, the NSX returned for the 2016 model year. For 2022, the NSX will wear the Type S badge and will get a number of enhancements. This will also be the final year before the NSX is discontinued yet again. Beyond its special set of badges, the NSX Type S features unique styling elements backed by a more potent powertrain.

The front grille area of the Type S is larger and has a cleaner design, while the rear-end features a GT3-style diffuser. The Type S also features forged alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires, a wider track, and Brembo high-performance brakes. An available Lightweight Package adds carbon-ceramic brakes and a number of weight reduction efforts that ultimately shave off 57.8 pounds.

Type S production is limited to 350 units, with 70 painted in an eye-catching Gotham Gray matte color exclusive to the Type S. The interior features Alcantara and leather throughout, as well as special “Type S” badging in the headrests.

As before, the NSX features a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbocharged V6 and three electric motors (two of which power the front wheels directly). In the Type S, this combination makes 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of torque. That’s an increase of 27 hp and 16 lb-ft over the standard NSX. The only available transmission is a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The NSX also features Acura’s Integrated Dynamics System with Quiet, Sport, Sport+, and Track drive modes.

Built in Marysville, Ohio, the 2022 Acura NSX Type S starts at $169,500. With the Lightweight Package, the starting price is $182,500. Both trims can be heavily customized and personalized to the owner’s preferences. Of the 350 cars planned, 300 are earmarked for the United States.
