Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Camry remains a solid all-rounder, and its appeal comes from doing the basics well. Reliability and practicality have long been the Camry’s strengths, and this generation also brings more extroverted styling and a more engaging driving experience than the model’s traditional reputation might suggest. For 2021, Toyota added subtle styling tweaks, new infotainment displays, an upgrade to the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ driver-aid package, changes to the dashboard trim, and it discontinued the Camry L trim level, making the Camry LE the new base trim.
What also sets the 2021 Toyota Camry apart is the breadth of choices it offers. It comes with three powertrains, six trim levels, and the choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In testing, the AWD SE Nightshade Edition sat near the middle of the lineup. The Camry’s strengths include comfort and spaciousness, while the TRD trim adds extra performance and style. On the downside, the infotainment system is described as outdated, and the base engine is called underwhelming.

I absolutely love my 2021 Toyota Camry. From the moment I got it, I honestly fell in love with it. The car looks sporty and modern, but at the same time it’s very comfortable and smooth to drive. It feels reliable and safe, which gives me a lot of confidence, especially as someone still getting used to driving more often. The fuel efficiency is great, and the interior is clean and well-designed. Everything feels solid and easy to use. It’s definitely a great value for the price. If I had to mention something, I wish it had push-button start, but overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for something reliable, stylish, and comfortable.

2021 Toyota Camry Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Toyota Camry prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Toyota Camry cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,008 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,005.85 |
| Year-Round High | $22,490.72 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,489 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.14% |
Prices have softened 2.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,305 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $21,005.85, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — 4.65/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the expert score is 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise the Camry for its smooth ride, great handling, and reliable performance. They also like its fuel efficiency and stylish design.
The trade-offs are the outdated technology and the underwhelming base engine. That matters less if you want a practical midsize sedan that still feels engaging to drive.
For you, the Camry makes the most sense if you want a roomy, efficient sedan with broad everyday appeal rather than a flashy luxury car. It also fits well if you value comfort and practicality for commuting or family use.
30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe the Camry as reliable and praise its dependable performance and trouble-free ownership feel. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Toyota’s strong reputation for reliability and notes that the Camry has traditionally been one of the brand’s most attractive choices for buyers who want something they can count on.
Toyota’s ownership coverage is average for the segment, but the Camry’s reputation and broad powertrain lineup help support confidence over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, especially if you want one of the more complex trims or drivetrains.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
At 62.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition consistency: panel alignment, tire wear, brake feel, interior wear, and whether the technology and driver aids operate as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LE and XLE models get a cleaner grille, while SE, XSE, and TRD trims add more aggressive styling but also more visual clutter from fake vents. The base LE rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque in most trims, a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, or a hybrid with 208 horsepower total system output. The four-cylinder and V6 use an eight-speed automatic, and AWD is available with the four-cylinder.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, and SiriusXM. Higher trims add a 9-inch screen, WiFi for five devices, navigation, and a nine-speaker JBL system, and a 10-inch head-up display is available on XSE and XLE.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder LE and SE return 32 mpg combined with FWD and 29 mpg combined with AWD. The V6 is rated at 26 mpg combined in XLE trim, while the hybrid reaches up to 52 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Camry is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XSE, and TRD.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: LE is the starting point, and it misses some of the nicer visual and convenience upgrades found higher up the range. It also leaves blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as optional equipment rather than standard.
- Sweet-spot trim: SE is the best balance for many shoppers because it adds a sportier look and still keeps the Camry’s core strengths intact. If you want value without stretching too far, this is the trim to focus on.
- Premium/top trim: XLE and XSE bring the richer tech and convenience story, including the larger touchscreen, available head-up display, and standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Off-road trim: TRD is the one to skip if you want the most comfortable daily-driver setup, since its performance tuning is aimed more at enthusiast appeal than everyday softness.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-traffic alert become standard on XLE and XSE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re selective.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,305 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,005.85, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $22,008 sits slightly below last year's $22,489.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices keep easing. The Camry’s broad appeal should still support demand, especially because shoppers continue to value its practicality and efficiency.
If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a better shot at holding value than with a less in-demand midsize sedan. Trim choice and maintenance history will matter most when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2021 Toyota Camry earned a “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it also earned five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in front, side, and rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Toyota also adds Rear Seat Reminder on all trim levels.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, but optional on LE and SE. That means you should pay close attention to the exact trim and option content if those features matter to you.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and the year adds updated infotainment and broader driver-assist capability.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,523, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $22,008 average.
- It adds all-wheel drive and the TRD performance variant.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $23,708, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,008 average.
- It adds more standard convenience features and keeps the Camry’s strong safety reputation.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the right pick if you want the best mix of updated safety tech, broad trim choice, and a still-reasonable market price. If you’re focused mainly on saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want a slightly newer setup and don’t mind paying more, the 2022 is worth a look.
