CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 3,230 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,963.00, 30.3% of 2021 Toyota Camrys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Camry 4.65 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
65.2% of 2021 Camry models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Camry remains a solid all-rounder, and its appeal comes from doing the basics well. Reliability and practicality have long been the Camry’s strengths, and this generation also brings more extroverted styling and a more engaging driving experience than the model’s traditional reputation might suggest. For 2021, Toyota added subtle styling tweaks, new infotainment displays, an upgrade to the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ driver-aid package, changes to the dashboard trim, and it discontinued the Camry L trim level, making the Camry LE the new base trim.
What also sets the 2021 Toyota Camry apart is the breadth of choices it offers. It comes with three powertrains, six trim levels, and the choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In testing, the AWD SE Nightshade Edition sat near the middle of the lineup. The Camry’s strengths include comfort and spaciousness, while the TRD trim adds extra performance and style. On the downside, the infotainment system is described as outdated, and the base engine is called underwhelming.

I absolutely love my 2021 Toyota Camry. From the moment I got it, I honestly fell in love with it. The car looks sporty and modern, but at the same time it’s very comfortable and smooth to drive. It feels reliable and safe, which gives me a lot of confidence, especially as someone still getting used to driving more often. The fuel efficiency is great, and the interior is clean and well-designed. Everything feels solid and easy to use. It’s definitely a great value for the price. If I had to mention something, I wish it had push-button start, but overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for something reliable, stylish, and comfortable.

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Toyota Camry prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Toyota Camry cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,897 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,003.53 |
| Year-Round High | $22,415.36 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,415 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.31% |
Prices have softened 2.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,261 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $21,003.53, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 4.65/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise the smooth ride, great handling, stylish design, fuel efficiency, and reliable performance. The overview also frames this Camry as a practical midsize sedan with broad appeal for families and commuters, while the expert notes highlight a more engaging driving experience than older Camry generations.
The main trade-offs are the outdated technology and the underwhelming base engine. Even so, the market still shows 30.1% good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback repeatedly points to reliable performance and fuel efficiency, and the expert notes reinforce Toyota’s reputation for reliability and practicality. The expert also describes the Camry as a well-rounded product that remains competitive on interior space, fuel efficiency, and standard driver aids.
Toyota’s warranty coverage is average for the segment, but the brand’s reliability reputation remains a meaningful ownership advantage. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is condition-specific wear, so a careful history check matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior accident. Focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, tire wear, and any signs that repairs were not completed cleanly. Because the Camry is sold in multiple trims and drivetrains, it also helps to confirm that the equipment on the car matches the listing.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LE and XLE models get a cleaner grille, while SE, XSE, and TRD trims add more aggressive styling but also more visual clutter. The base LE trim uses 17-inch alloy wheels, and the interior materials are described as low-rent.
- Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder is rated at 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet with FWD, or 202 hp and 182 lb-ft with AWD. The V6 makes 301 hp and 267 lb-ft, and the hybrid totals 208 hp.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, and SiriusXM. Higher trims add a 9-inch screen, WiFi, navigation, and a nine-speaker JBL system.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder LE and SE return 32 mpg combined with FWD and 29 mpg combined with AWD. The V6 is rated at 26 mpg combined in XLE trim, and the hybrid reaches up to 52 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Camry is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XSE, and TRD.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: LE is the entry point, but it lacks the more upscale cabin materials and the standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert found on higher trims.
- Sweet-spot trim: SE is the best value if you want the core Camry experience with a sportier look and strong efficiency, while still keeping pricing and running costs in check.
- Premium/top trim: XSE is the most appealing upscale choice because it adds the larger touchscreen, available head-up display, and standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Off-road trim: TRD is the least practical daily-driver choice if you want comfort and efficiency first, since it is tuned more for performance than everyday value.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the lineup, so even the base trim starts with a strong safety foundation.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep distress pricing.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,261 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,003.53, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $21,897 sits slightly below last year's $22,415.
That price movement suggests the Camry has softened enough to help you buy more carefully now, but not so much that it looks weak in the used market. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, the current pricing gives you a reasonable starting point for future resale. Strong demand should continue to support values because shoppers still respond to the Camry’s reputation for satisfaction and practicality.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2021 Toyota Camry earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the highest five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with five-star ratings in front, side, and rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. The system also adds enhanced lane-change assistance and broader forward-collision detection capability for cyclists and certain turning scenarios.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, but optional on LE and SE. That means you should pay close attention to trim choice if those features matter to you.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 adds Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ and updated infotainment displays.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,459, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,897 average.
- It adds all-wheel drive and the TRD performance variant.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $23,672, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,897 average.
- It adds new paint colors and more standard convenience features.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated safety tech, strong owner satisfaction, and a broad trim range. If price is your top priority, the 2020 can save you money while still delivering much of the same core Camry appeal.
