The Rolls-Royce Dawn is a convertible ultra-luxury grand tourer, similar to the Bentley Continental GTC and Aston Martin DB11 Volante. Unlike those cars, however, the emphasis is on comfort and smoothness above all else. It slides into 2021 without any major changes.

The Dawn features a twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V12, mated to an eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive (RWD). The transmission and air suspension use GPS data to determine when to change gears and adjust, filtering all but the worst bumps from the Dawn’s cabin. The convertible takes just 4.3 seconds to hit 60 mph.

Every Dawn includes 21-inch wheels, navigation, HID headlights, a 16-speaker, 600-watt sound system, 2 subwoofers, leather upholstery, power seats, a power-operated soft top, heated mirrors, keyless access and start, 8-way adjustable front seats with massage, and 4-zone automatic climate control.

Safety features include forward-collision warning, adaptive headlights, and a rear-view camera. Lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, night vision, and blind-spot monitoring are extra-cost features. Like everything else in its class, there’s no public crash safety data for the Dawn.

The elegant Rolls-Royce Dawn is just about the most comfortable open-top experience that exists.
