CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Nissan Rogue
overall

Summary
With 4,031 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,874, 32.3% of 2021 Nissan Rogues for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Nissan Rogue 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 9 / 10.
76.8% of 2021 Rogue models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Nissan Rogue stands out as a carefully executed redesign of one of Nissan’s most important vehicles. It is described as all-new, and the test-drive summary says the new Rogue is a better SUV in every way but one. That makes it appealing to shoppers who want a compact crossover that feels thoroughly updated rather than lightly revised.
Its strongest traits are easy to understand: stylish design, great ride quality, and premium interior materials. Those qualities give the 2021 Rogue a more upscale feel than its mainstream mission might suggest, and the owner feedback reinforces that impression by praising the smooth and refined ride, attractive design, and roomy interior. For buyers who value comfort and a polished cabin, those are meaningful advantages.
The main drawback is performance, which is called fairly pedestrian, and the stereo is also lacking. In other words, the 2021 Nissan Rogue is strongest when judged as a comfortable, well-finished family crossover, but it is less compelling if a buyer wants strong acceleration or a standout audio system.

For the amount features you get with this car for the price, it’s absolutely amazing. I would only wish that the lip of leather that sticks out in between the screen and middle vents wasn’t there because I feel like it blocks the airflow just a bit. And even then, I love everything else so much that that isn’t too big of a deal. The sun and moonroof is gorgeous, the leather interior and overall space is to die for, and it drive so smooth. Would definitely recommend.

I think the Rogue is an outstanding value…great size/plenty of room and safety features/good gas mileage and quality materials. My Rogue is missing Navigation and a cargo cover. I’d compare my Rogue to a RAV4 or Subaru Outback.

We have had a few Rogues in my family over the years and have never had any issues. The simple key is to keep up with maintenance schedule and not to be heavy footed. This purchase was a 2021 because it has the same 2.5 motor.- not sure yet to the new 3 liter with a turbo. 2021 is sleeker with a more firm drive. I also was looking at Mazda cx-5 for also being a sound 2.5 liter with quality reputation and great price point.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,855 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,855 |
| Year-Round High | $21,051 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,049 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.42% |
Prices have softened 10.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,020 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Nissan Rogue earns a 5/5 user rating and a 9.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth and refined ride, the roomy interior, and the attractive design. They also point to the vehicle’s value for the price, which fits the Rogue’s role as a comfortable, well-equipped family crossover.
The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and a stereo that falls short of the rest of the package. That lines up with the overview: you’re getting a polished, upscale-feeling compact SUV, not a quick one.
Good and great deals make up 32.3% of the market, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride, roomy cabin, and overall value. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the Rogue as a cost-effective choice with solid equipment and packaging.
Nissan also says the Rogue’s CVT is a good one because you barely notice it, which supports the sense that the drivetrain is designed to feel unobtrusive over time. The model’s first-year redesign status means you should still pay close attention to maintenance records and long-term wear before buying used.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the drivetrain, electronics, and interior condition, since those are the areas where used-car surprises can hide. Focus on how the cabin, controls, and driver-assistance features work in real-world use, not just how the SUV looks in photos.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim gets the 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a comprehensive safety suite, while higher trims add more convenience and luxury. The SL and Platinum trims bring a more upscale cabin feel, and Platinum adds the most premium interior touches.
- Powertrain: The Rogue uses a direct-injected 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. It’s adequate for daily driving, but the expert review says it needs more power.
- Safety package: Every Rogue gets Nissan Safety Shield 360, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. ProPilot Assist with lane-centering is standard starting with the SV, and the SV also adds a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: The base system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can add a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, a Bose audio system, wireless charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.8-inch head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The tested front-wheel-drive Rogue SL returned 27.5 mpg on a mixed driving loop.
Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: Rogue S, Rogue SV, Rogue SL, Rogue Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Rogue S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Rogue experience: the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the full Safety Shield 360 suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesign.
- Rogue SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds NissanConnect Services, a WiFi hotspot, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration, ProPilot Assist, and a surround-view camera system. If you want the strongest mix of convenience and safety, start here.
- Rogue SL: This trim adds a more upscale feel, and the available Premium Package brings the larger 9-inch touchscreen, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Bose audio. It suits you if comfort and tech matter more than keeping the price down.
- Rogue Platinum: This is the most luxurious version, with quilted semi-aniline leather, contrast stitching, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.8-inch head-up display. Choose it if you want the most premium Rogue experience.
Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, while ProPilot Assist starts with the SV.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?
The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,020 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.42% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,855, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?
The current average of $18,855 sits slightly below last year's $21,049.
That price movement suggests the Rogue has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to trade or sell.
The model’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and healthy market demand should help support resale interest over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?
The 2021 Nissan Rogue earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Every Rogue comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Nissan also adds ten airbags, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system, while ProPilot Assist with lane-centering becomes standard starting with the SV.
The expert review also notes that crash-test results were unavailable at the time of writing, so you should still check for any updated ratings before you buy. ProPilot Assist can also issue frequent audible notifications and behave in ways that may annoy some drivers.
Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.42% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a more upscale cabin, better ride quality, and a much stronger technology package.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $15,646, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $18,855 average.
- It’s an older Rogue with familiar styling and everyday practicality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,797, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $18,855 average.
- It adds a new turbocharged engine and improved fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of freshness, comfort, and value, the 2021 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, but you give up the redesign’s major improvements. If you want newer powertrain hardware and can spend more, the 2022 is the better upgrade path.
