CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Nissan Rogue
overall

Summary
With 4,027 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,985.00, 32.5% of 2021 Nissan Rogues for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Nissan Rogue 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 9 / 10.
76.9% of 2021 Rogue models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Nissan Rogue stands out as a carefully executed redesign of one of Nissan’s most important vehicles. It is described as the automaker’s best-selling model in America and one of the best-selling vehicles in America overall, which helps explain why the pressure to get this replacement right was so high. The result is a compact crossover SUV that is presented as better in every way but one, making it an especially notable entry in a crowded segment.
What gives the 2021 Rogue its appeal is the combination of style, comfort, and refinement. Its strengths include stylish design, great ride quality, and premium interior materials, and owners echo that impression by praising the smooth and refined ride, attractive design, and roomy interior. Those qualities make it easy to see why it would appeal to buyers looking for a practical SUV that feels more polished than basic transportation.
The tradeoff is that the Rogue is not the most exciting choice to drive. Its performance is described as fairly pedestrian, and the stereo is also called out as lacking. Even so, for shoppers who value comfort, interior quality, and a well-rounded everyday driving experience, the 2021 Nissan Rogue makes a strong case for itself.

For the amount features you get with this car for the price, it’s absolutely amazing. I would only wish that the lip of leather that sticks out in between the screen and middle vents wasn’t there because I feel like it blocks the airflow just a bit. And even then, I love everything else so much that that isn’t too big of a deal. The sun and moonroof is gorgeous, the leather interior and overall space is to die for, and it drive so smooth. Would definitely recommend.

I think the Rogue is an outstanding value…great size/plenty of room and safety features/good gas mileage and quality materials. My Rogue is missing Navigation and a cargo cover. I’d compare my Rogue to a RAV4 or Subaru Outback.

We have had a few Rogues in my family over the years and have never had any issues. The simple key is to keep up with maintenance schedule and not to be heavy footed. This purchase was a 2021 because it has the same 2.5 motor.- not sure yet to the new 3 liter with a turbo. 2021 is sleeker with a more firm drive. I also was looking at Mazda cx-5 for also being a sound 2.5 liter with quality reputation and great price point.

How much does the 2021 Nissan Rogue cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,927 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,934.28 |
| Year-Round High | $21,113.35 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,104 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.32% |
Prices have softened 10.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,070 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $18,934.28, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Nissan Rogue earns a 5/5 user rating and a 9.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth and refined ride, impressive features, and roomy interior. They also like the attractive design and the value for the price, which lines up well with the Rogue’s role as a practical compact SUV that feels more polished than basic transportation.
The main trade-offs are that it could use more power and that storage space in the front area leaves some owners wanting more. That fits the broader use-case here: if you want comfort, interior quality, and everyday refinement, the Rogue makes a strong case; if you want a more engaging drive, it is less compelling.
Good and great deals account for 27.7% of listings, so there are still opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and easy to live with over the long term. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the CVT is a good one because you barely notice it, which supports the sense that the Rogue is tuned for smooth, low-stress daily use.
The cost-effectiveness assessment also notes that the Rogue does not offer a free maintenance program, so long-term ownership costs still deserve attention when you shop used.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on overall condition, interior wear, and how well the technology and driver-assistance features operate. It also makes sense to pay close attention to trim-specific equipment so you know exactly what you are getting.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Rogue S starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a clean, logical cabin layout, while higher trims add more upscale materials and features. The SL and Platinum bring a more luxurious look and feel, and Platinum adds quilted semi-aniline leather, contrast stitching, and ambient lighting.
- Powertrain: The only engine is a direct-injected 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. It is adequate for daily driving, but the Rogue is still described as needing more power.
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is not part of that base package and starts with the SV through ProPilot Assist.
- Infotainment: S trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SV and SL add NissanConnect Services, a WiFi hotspot, and Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration. SL Premium Package and Platinum add a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, and a Bose audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The tested Rogue SL with front-wheel drive returned 27.5 mpg on a driving loop.
Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: Rogue S, Rogue SV, Rogue SL, Rogue Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Rogue S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Rogue experience with the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the standard Safety Shield 360 suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Rogue, but it is also the trim where you feel the most feature gaps versus the higher versions.
- Rogue SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds NissanConnect Services, a WiFi hotspot, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration, adaptive cruise control through ProPilot Assist, and a surround-view camera system. If you want the strongest mix of convenience and safety tech without jumping to luxury pricing, this is the one to target.
- Rogue SL: This trim adds a more upscale cabin and, with the Premium Package, brings the larger 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, and Bose audio. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver and are willing to pay for it.
- Rogue Platinum: This is the most luxurious version, with quilted semi-aniline leather, contrast stitching, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.8-inch head-up display. It is the right pick if you want the most technology and the most upscale interior.
Safety-wise, the SV is the first trim to add adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera system, while Platinum also gets the additional front-center airbag.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,070 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,934.28, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?
The current average of $18,927 sits slightly below last year's $21,104.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than on broad market momentum alone.
Because the Rogue is still drawing solid shopper interest and has strong owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Higher trims with desirable equipment may also hold appeal better than stripped-down versions.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Rogue also comes with ten airbags, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system.
Adaptive cruise control starts with the SV trim as part of ProPilot Assist, which also adds lane-centering assistance. The SV also gets a surround-view camera system, while the SL Premium Package and Platinum add upgraded ProPilot Assist with Navi-link technology. That system can still behave in unexpected ways and can issue frequent audible notifications, so it is helpful but not flawless.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It is a redesigned Rogue with stronger tech, better refinement, and a more polished cabin.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $15,844, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $18,927 average.
- It is the older, familiar Rogue with comfort, cargo space, and gas mileage as its main strengths.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,956, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $18,927 average.
- It adds a new turbocharged engine and better fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the best blend of redesign freshness, comfort, and technology, the 2021 is the strongest all-around choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 can still make sense, while the 2022 is worth considering if you want the newer powertrain and can stretch your budget.
