Used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA for Sale nearNewark, NJ

How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA cost?

Prices have softened 10.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 639 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The redesign gives you a more conventional small SUV shape, and the GLA is compact and easy to maneuver while still offering multiple powertrain options and strong tech. That said, the expert notes also point to a less-refined feel than other Mercedes models, along with weak ride quality and handling.

Trade-offs to keep in mind: poor ride quality and poor handling, plus limited cargo space.

For you, that means the GLA makes the most sense if you want a small luxury SUV that feels easy to live with in tight spaces and puts a premium on technology over chassis polish. Good and great deals account for 37.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The GLA’s redesign and its strong technology suite suggest a modern ownership experience, and the expert notes describe it as a compact SUV that covers the basics well. Its turbocharged powertrain is described as unrefined in daily driving, though it performs better once you’re up to speed.

Mercedes also includes a car-wash function that folds the mirrors, closes the windows and roof, suppresses the rain sensor, and switches climate control to recirculation mode, which is a nice convenience touch for everyday use.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the GLA’s less-polished powertrain and cabin refinement may matter more as mileage builds, especially if you expect a quieter, smoother luxury experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, because the GLA’s value proposition depends heavily on whether the car has been maintained well and whether its equipment matches what you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLA 250 is the entry point, and it comes with standard LED headlights and a cabin that the expert found less premium than you might expect from Mercedes. If you want a nicer lighting setup, adaptive LED headlights are available as part of a package.
• Powertrain: The GLA 250 and GLA 250 4MATIC use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the AMG GLA 35 adds a more powerful AMG-enhanced turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The standard turbo-four returns 25 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined, while the 4MATIC version does one mpg worse in each category.
• Safety package: Every GLA gets a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, vehicle-exit warning, automatic emergency braking, driver-drowsiness monitoring, crosswind assist, and traditional cruise control. To get nearly all of the most desirable active safety tech, you need the Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control, active lane-keeping assist, active blind-spot assist, evasive steering assist, route-based speed adjustment, active speed limit assist, traffic-jam assist, active lane change assist, and more. The Parking Assistance Package adds a surround-view camera system and parallel and perpendicular parking assist.
• Infotainment: Standard MBUX includes two 7.0-inch display screens in one housing, plus Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four USB ports, a touchpad controller, and touch input. Available upgrades include a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless device charging, a WiFi hot spot, head-up display, navigation, and a 12-speaker Burmester audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard turbo-four is rated at 25 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined, while the 4MATIC version drops by one mpg in each category.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA is offered in 3 trim levels: GLA 250, GLA 250 4MATIC, AMG GLA 35.

Here's the short version:

• GLA 250: This is the best-value starting point if you want the redesigned GLA’s core strengths without paying for extra performance hardware. You still get the standard MBUX setup, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the same compact, easy-to-maneuver footprint.
• GLA 250 4MATIC: Choose this if you want all-wheel drive and are willing to trade a little fuel economy for added traction. It makes the most sense if you expect to drive in weather where AWD matters more than maximum efficiency.
• AMG GLA 35: This is the pick if you want the strongest performance in the lineup, with 302 hp, AMG-specific drive modes, sport suspension, high-performance brakes, and an AMG-specific exhaust system. It’s the enthusiast choice, not the value choice.

For safety, the Driver Assistance Package is the key add-on if you want the most advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers who are willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 639 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,555, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA's resale value?

The current average of $22,652 sits slightly below last year's $25,322.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’re starting from a more favorable entry point than a year ago.

The GLA’s broad appeal comes from its compact size and strong technology, but its weaker ride quality and handling may matter to future shoppers if they compare it with more polished rivals. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes gives every GLA a reasonable amount of active safety features, including a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, vehicle-exit warning, automatic emergency braking, driver-drowsiness monitoring, crosswind assist, and traditional cruise control.

If you want the most desirable driver-assistance tech, look for the Driver Assistance Package. It adds adaptive cruise control, active lane-keeping assist, active blind-spot assist, evasive steering assist, route-based speed adjustment, active speed limit assist, traffic-jam assist, active lane change assist, active brake assist with cross-traffic intervention, and a rear-collision sensing system. The Parking Assistance Package adds a surround-view camera and parking assist.

As tested without the Driver Assistance Package, the GLA felt chintzy, and the expert comparison notes that some less expensive SUVs offer more standard safety tech.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year brought a complete redesign that made the GLA more SUV-like, more modern, and more tech-forward.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned GLA with its stronger tech, more traditional SUV shape, and current market pricing, the 2021 is the year to target. If your priority is maximum value and you’re open to shopping more broadly, compare it carefully against similarly sized alternatives before committing, especially if you care more about ride quality, cargo room, or a more premium-feeling cabin.
