How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 2.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 752 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and our experts give it 7.8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its performance, visibility, and design, which lines up with its distinctive luxury-and-ruggedness appeal. The G-Class also stands out for its powerful engine and unmistakable presence, making it a strong fit if you want something that feels unlike almost anything else on the road.

The trade-offs are clear: poor handling and poor fuel economy. It also has limited cargo space, so it works best if you value character, capability, and luxury more than everyday practicality.

With 31.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels luxurious and impressive, with praise for performance and design that suggests a strong ownership experience. The expert review also emphasizes its capable, impressive, fun-to-drive character, which supports the idea that it’s built to deliver a memorable long-term experience.

Mercedes-Benz includes two years or 20,000 miles of Star Service covering two factory-scheduled maintenance services, which helps with early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is an expensive vehicle to buy and maintain, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on maintenance records, signs of hard use, and whether the vehicle has been modified or heavily optioned. Because this SUV is expensive and capability-focused, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G-Class lineup includes the G550 and the Mercedes-AMG G63. The G550 is the more accessible choice, while the G63 sits higher in the range with more power and more opulence.
• Powertrain: The G550 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. It also includes Dynamic Select driving programs, including G-mode for more assertive off-roading.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The lane-keeping system can feel abrupt, so you should test it carefully.
• Infotainment: The cabin features a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment screen, a matching 12.3-inch virtual instrument panel, Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi, and Mercedes me connect services.
• Fuel efficiency: The G550 is rated at 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: G550, Mercedes-AMG G63.

Here's the short version:

• G550: This is the best-value choice if you want the core G-Class experience without stretching to the top of the range. You still get the signature design, standard all-wheel drive, strong performance, and the full luxury-and-capability personality that defines the model.
• Mercedes-AMG G63: Choose this if you want the most powerful and most extravagant version of the G-Class. It builds on the same basic formula with more performance and more visual drama, but it’s the pricier path.

Standard safety equipment is generous across the lineup, including active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, blind-spot monitoring, and more.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 752 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $135,482, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $135,482 sits slightly below last year's $138,572.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more strategically today. For a future seller, it also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain healthy among shoppers who want its unique mix of luxury and rugged character. Well-kept examples are likely to hold attention better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not been rated for crash-worthiness or safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes-Benz includes a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. One caveat is that the lane-keeping system can feel abrupt, so you should understand how it behaves before relying on it.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 keeps the G-Class formula intact with its distinctive design, strong performance, and luxury-focused character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $119,189, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $135,482 average.
• It blends ruggedness with luxury and still handles surprisingly well.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market availability, owner satisfaction, and the 2021 model’s distinctive character, this year makes sense. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
