There are 732 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and our experts give it 7.8/10.

The G-Class also earns a strong 9.00/10 expert score for Look and feel and Performance. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its luxury feel, impressive performance, visibility, and distinctive design. The main trade-offs are its steep price and limited rear seating space.

That fits the G-Class well as a five-passenger luxury body-on-frame SUV with a strong presence and off-road-ready character, rather than a conventional daily-driver value play.

With 34.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a luxurious, impressive vehicle that many people feel good about living with over time. The same feedback also suggests you can count on its performance and distinctive character, which supports the sense that it is built for long-term ownership appeal.

The expert review also describes it as a very capable, impressive, fun-to-drive vehicle, and notes that Mercedes-Benz includes two years or 20,000 miles of Star Service covering two factory-scheduled maintenance services.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about high running costs and the expense of keeping it in top condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a full records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, interior wear, and evidence of hard use, since this model’s appeal often overlaps with expensive options and demanding ownership. Pay close attention to whether the vehicle matches the kind of luxury-and-capability use you expect from a G-Class.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G550 starts at $131,750, while the G63 starts at $156,450. The G550 is the more approachable choice, while the AMG version is for buyers who want more power and a more overtly upscale presentation.
• Powertrain: The G550 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. It also includes Dynamic Select driving programs, including G-mode for more assertive off-roading.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The lane-keeping system can feel abrupt, so make sure you understand how it behaves before relying on it.
• Infotainment: The cabin features a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment screen, a matching 12.3-inch virtual instrument panel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi, and Mercedes me connect services. Wireless device charging is not included.
• Fuel efficiency: The G550 is rated at 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: G550, G63.

Here's the short version:

• G550: This is the trim most shoppers should start with. It delivers the core G-Class experience: the boxy design, strong V8 power, standard four-wheel drive, and the luxury-tech setup that makes the cabin feel special. It is the best-value choice if you want the G-Class character without stretching to the AMG model.
• G63: Choose this if you want the more powerful, more expensive version and are willing to pay for the extra performance and added opulence. It suits you best if the G-Class is as much about status and excitement as it is about capability.

Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 732 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $135,398, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $135,557 sits slightly below last year's $139,595.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now and may also limit how much immediate depreciation you absorb. For a future seller, the current trend points to a market that is still active but not overheated, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it is time to resell.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain healthy among shoppers who want its distinctive character.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The lane-keeping system can feel abrupt, so you should understand how it behaves before depending on it.

The G-Class has not been rated for crash-worthiness or safety by IIHS or NHTSA, so you do not get official crash-test results to lean on here.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model pairs the classic G-Class shape with a luxury interior, sophisticated powertrain, and modern technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $118,493, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $135,557 average.
• It blends ruggedness and luxury while preserving the old-school G-Wagen character.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market availability, owner satisfaction, and the 2021 model's updated luxury-and-capability formula, the 2021 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less up front and you still want the G-Class personality, the 2020 is the more price-sensitive path.
