How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 2.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 808 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, strong performance, visibility, and distinctive design. In use-case terms, it fits you best if you want a five-passenger luxury SUV with serious presence and a rugged identity rather than a practical daily hauler.

The trade-offs are clear: poor handling and limited rear-seat space show up in the feedback, and the expert notes also point to poor fuel economy and limited cargo space.

Good and great deals account for 34.8% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, impressive, and dependable enough to inspire confidence over time. The expert notes also reinforce that it is a capable, impressive SUV with a strong reputation for ruggedness and durability.

Mercedes-Benz includes two years or 20,000 miles of Star Service covering two factory-scheduled maintenance visits, which helps early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that upkeep can be expensive if the truck has been neglected or heavily optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the suspension, brakes, electronics, and any signs of hard use. Focus on condition, because this model’s luxury and off-road character can hide costly wear if it has been driven hard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G550 is the more accessible choice, while the G63 adds more power and a higher starting price. The G550 already brings the boxy design, luxury interior, and strong standard equipment, so it is the better-value pick for most shoppers.
• Powertrain: The G550 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and permanent 4WD. It is quick for its size and includes driving programs such as G-mode for off-road use.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The base setup is already broad, but the lane-keeping system can feel abrupt.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment display, a matching 12.3-inch virtual instrument panel, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and standard WiFi. Mercedes me connect services are included for three years.
• Fuel efficiency: The G550 is rated at 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: G550 and G63.

Here's the short version:

• G550: This is the best-value choice because it delivers the core G-Class experience: the iconic design, a twin-turbo V8, permanent 4WD, strong off-road hardware, and a luxury cabin with dual 12.3-inch displays. It is the trim most buyers should start with if they want the G-Class character without pushing into the highest price tier.
• G63: Choose this if you want the more powerful, more expensive version and you care most about maximum performance and extra opulence. It is the top-end expression of the lineup, but the added cost makes it a want rather than a need for most shoppers.

Standard safety equipment is already extensive on the G550, including active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, and blind-spot monitoring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 808 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $136,281, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $136,281 sits slightly below last year's $139,636.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now than a year ago. For a future seller, the softer trend suggests you should expect some depreciation pressure rather than immediate price strength. Even so, this model’s distinctive appeal and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not been rated for crash-worthiness or safety by IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The lane-keeping system is the main caveat, since it can intervene rather abruptly when it detects drift.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model keeps the iconic boxy shape while pairing it with a luxury interior and strong performance.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $120,778, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $136,281 average.
• It delivers the same rugged, luxury-first G-Class character with a strong off-road identity.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the newer-year market position, strong owner satisfaction, and a broad selection of listings to compare. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play and still gives you the core G-Class experience.
