How much does the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?

Prices are up 1.31% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 567 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 earns 5/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its sporty design, high-quality interior, and fun driving experience, and they also call out its stylish appearance and fuel efficiency. That lines up with the car’s upscale, driver-focused personality and its appeal to buyers who want something polished rather than flashy. The main trade-offs are the lack of a manual transmission, poor visibility, and outdated technology. Even so, the car fits well if you want a compact model that emphasizes style, quality, and driving enjoyment. Good and great deals account for 30.5% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car people feel good about living with over time, with praise centered on a dependable-feeling driving experience, strong satisfaction, and a car that owners can count on. The expert drive notes also emphasize smoothness, consistency, predictability, and a car that a driver comes to know and trust. Mazda also says the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the specific car has been maintained well and avoided hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA3?

At 74.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or interior wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Focus on condition first, because the model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been kept. If you’re comparing cars, pay close attention to equipment differences and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard setup brings black or greige leatherette, while the higher trim upgrades to Nappa leather and adds a more premium cabin feel. The better-equipped version also brings a high-definition surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed reverse automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist, so the base car leaves some desirable convenience and safety hardware off the table.
• Powertrain: The turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque on 93-octane fuel, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on 87-octane fuel. It uses a six-speed automatic with Sport and Manual modes and all-wheel drive, and the setup is tuned for smooth, predictable response rather than frantic behavior.
• Safety package: The i-ActiveSense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and automatic high-beam LED headlights with Adaptive Front Lighting System. The higher trim adds the surround-view camera, parking sensors, reverse automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a three-year trial of Mazda Connected Services. It is not touch-sensitive, and the system also includes a WiFi hotspot trial and a MyMazda app for remote functions.
• Fuel efficiency: During testing, the car averaged 20.4 mpg, while the EPA estimate was 27 mpg in combined driving. Real-world driving was estimated at about 24 mpg.

Which 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 2 trim levels: standard and Premium Plus.

Here's the short version:

• standard: This is the better starting point if you want the Mazda3 Turbo’s core strengths — the turbocharged powertrain, AWD, strong driving feel, and upscale design — without paying for the extra convenience and parking tech. It still gives you the premium look and the performance that define the car.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete version of the car. It adds Nappa leather, a high-definition surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed reverse automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist, making it the smarter pick if you want the most luxury and the most useful safety/convenience upgrades.

The safety package is strongest on Premium Plus, where the extra camera, sensors, reverse braking, and Traffic Jam Assist are included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 567 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.31% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 74.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,455, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $19,662 sits slightly above last year's $19,407.

That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than a typical compact car. The model’s premium feel and strong owner satisfaction help support demand on the used market. Cars with the right equipment and clean history should be easier to resell than examples with accident records or visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance, and it had previously earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The i-ActiveSense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, automatic high-beam LED headlights, and Adaptive Front Lighting System functionality. On the higher trim, you also get a high-definition surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed reverse automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist. Mazda notes that Traffic Jam Assist is not Level 2 automation, so you remain in control of steering. The main caveat is that the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating was not carried over for this model year as of the review.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.31% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The turbo model adds smooth, predictable power with AWD and a more upscale feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,872, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $19,662 average.
• It emphasizes premium styling, easy-to-use tech, and standard safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,050, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,662 average.
• It adds Carbon Edition styling and a few useful updates.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, satisfaction, and turbocharged performance, the 2021 is the one to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is the better price-first alternative, while the 2022 makes sense only if you specifically want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
