How much does the 2021 Lexus IS cost?

There are 511 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Lexus IS a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Lexus IS earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the stylish design, sporty feel, luxurious feel, handling, and value for money. The overview also points you toward a compact luxury sports sedan with a more focused personality than a typical comfort-first sedan, especially if you want something aimed at enthusiast drivers.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine, the irritating transmission, and outdated technology. That means you should expect a car that leans into driving character and styling more than cutting-edge convenience.

With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

Is the 2021 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a car that feels dependable, with buyers highlighting the stylish design, sporty feel, and value for money over time. The expert notes also reinforce Lexus’ reputation for quality and reliability, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership.

The performance write-up adds that the IS feels crisp, precise, and balanced, which is the kind of engineering character that usually helps a car age well. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the car’s older-feeling tech and transmission behavior.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Lexus IS?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because the market includes a meaningful number of accident-affected cars, condition matters as much as mileage and price.

Focus on how the car drives, how the transmission behaves, and whether the technology and connected features work as expected. If you want the best ownership experience, make sure the listing’s equipment matches what you expect before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the IS 300 RWD, IS 300 AWD, IS 350 RWD F Sport, and IS 350 AWD F Sport. The base trims are more affordable, while the F Sport versions add the sportier positioning and equipment buyers often want in this model.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four in the rear-wheel-drive IS 300, a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 in the all-wheel-drive IS 300, and the same V6 tuned higher in the IS 350 models. The lineup also pairs rear-wheel-drive models with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive models with a six-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard, and it includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign recognition, lane-tracing assist, full-speed dynamic adaptive cruise control, and intelligent high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also included.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Lexus connected services, Safety Connect, Service Connect, WiFi, and Remote features are also part of the tech story.
• Fuel efficiency: The IS 300 RWD is rated at 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the IS 300 AWD is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The IS 350 RWD is rated at 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, and the IS 350 AWD is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Lexus IS trim should I buy?

The 2021 Lexus IS is offered in 4 trim levels: IS 300 RWD, IS 300 AWD, IS 350 RWD F Sport, IS 350 AWD F Sport.

Here's the short version:

• IS 300 RWD: This is the least expensive way into the lineup and the best fit if you want the core rear-wheel-drive driving character without stretching your budget. It gives you the 2.0-liter turbo four and the standard safety and infotainment equipment, making it the value pick for most shoppers.
• IS 300 AWD: Choose this if you want all-wheel-drive traction and the naturally aspirated V6 character. It costs more than the rear-wheel-drive version, so it makes the most sense if weather confidence matters more to you than price.
• IS 350 RWD F Sport: This is the stronger choice if you want the sportiest feel and the most engaging powertrain in the lineup. It suits you best if you care more about performance and driving enjoyment than minimizing purchase price.
• IS 350 AWD F Sport: Pick this if you want the top-end V6 setup plus all-weather traction. It is the most expensive version, so it makes sense when you want the fullest feature-and-performance mix.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims just to get the core driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Lexus IS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting deep distress pricing.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 511 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.01% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,077, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $33,913 sits slightly below last year's $34,260.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. Even so, the price movement is not dramatic, so the model is holding value reasonably well relative to its recent average.

For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to list the car. A well-kept example should still attract interest, especially because the model has strong owner satisfaction and a clear enthusiast appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Lexus IS safe?

The 2021 Lexus IS hasn’t yet been rated for crashworthiness by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), nor has it received an overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard, and it includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, low-light pedestrian detection, daytime bicyclist detection, left-turn intersection support, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign recognition, lane-tracing assist, full-speed dynamic adaptive cruise control, and intelligent high beams. You also get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera with dynamic gridlines, and Lexus Enform Safety Connect with SOS emergency assistance, roadside assistance, automatic collision notification, and stolen vehicle notification.

The main caveat is that the crash-test picture is incomplete in the source material, so you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the car’s condition when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2021 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year brings a fresh generation with a more focused sporty personality and sharper handling.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $36,691, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $33,913 average.
• It adds the IS 500 F Sport Performance with a V8 and significantly stronger performance.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and are shopping for a sporty compact luxury sedan, the 2021 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a major performance upgrade, the 2022 is the more exciting choice.
