Is the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 Range Rover Sport’s appeal comes from its broad capability and premium execution, not from a stripped-down, low-complexity design. Its expert evaluation highlights strong performance, and the model’s overall package is described as unusually well-rounded for a luxury SUV. The powertrain lineup and full-time four-wheel drive also suggest a vehicle engineered for varied use, from daily driving to more demanding terrain.

The performance setup includes multiple engine choices, an eight-speed automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel drive, height-adjustable air suspension, and Terrain Response modes for different surfaces. That breadth is a plus for durability-minded shoppers because it gives you a vehicle designed to handle a wide range of conditions.

If you buy used, your biggest long-term ownership risk is the combination of complex systems and premium-SUV upkeep, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a thorough inspection, especially if the vehicle has been used in harsh weather or off-road conditions. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy wear, and whether the technology and convenience features operate as expected. If you’re considering a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment works properly and matches the listing description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE includes leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker Meridian sound system, a WiFi hotspot, and the dual-screen infotainment setup with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add comfort and luxury features such as quad-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a refrigerated center console, 22-way power-adjustable front seats, and power soft-close doors.
• Powertrain: The base P360 mild-hybrid setup uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt electrical system. Other options include the P400 version, a plug-in hybrid with 398 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, a turbodiesel V6 with 254 hp and 443 lb-ft, and supercharged V8s with 518 hp or 575 hp depending on trim.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert require extra cost, while surround-view parking camera, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness monitoring, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and a head-up display are available.
• Infotainment: The dual-screen center console is the main interface, with the lower screen handling climate and vehicle settings and the upper screen handling infotainment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the system uses integrated dials plus a real volume button, though it can take time to learn.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid is rated at 42 MPGe combined with 19 miles of electric range and 19 mpg combined in hybrid mode. The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. Mild-hybrid models return 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The V8-powered HSE Dynamic and Autobiography models are rated at 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined, while the SVR and SVR Carbon Edition return 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport trim should I buy?

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is offered in 7 trim levels: SE, HSE Silver, HST, HSE Dynamic, Autobiography, SVR, and SVR Carbon Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker Meridian sound system, a WiFi hotspot, and the dual-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the Range Rover Sport experience without chasing the pricier luxury and performance upgrades.
• HSE Silver: This trim adds quad-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 19-speaker Meridian sound system. It also includes a refrigerated center console, making it the best-value choice if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping into the high-performance trims.
• HST: This version keeps much of the HSE Silver equipment but upgrades the powertrain to the more potent P400 setup and swaps in tri-zone climate control. It suits you if you want stronger acceleration and a more performance-oriented feel without going all the way to a V8.
• HSE Dynamic: This trim is defined by its supercharged V8 engine, plus a limited-slip differential and a two-speed transfer case. It’s the right pick if you want serious power and more hardware under the skin.
• Autobiography: This is where the luxury focus really ramps up, with 22-way power-adjustable front seats, power soft-close doors, and many of the optional features from lower trims. Choose it if comfort and prestige matter more than value.
• SVR: This performance model gets a more powerful V8, performance-oriented front-and-rear sport seats, and a stiffer suspension. It’s the trim for you if you want the most aggressive driving character.
• SVR Carbon Edition: This builds on the SVR with carbon fiber accents and 22-inch alloy wheels. It’s the most distinctive-looking version, but it’s best for buyers who specifically want the top-end appearance and performance package.

Standard driver assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and front-and-rear parking sensors, while adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert cost extra.

If you find a listing below $33,132, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport's resale value?

The current average of $33,153 sits slightly below last year's $40,420.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is currently priced more attractively than it was a year ago, so depreciation pressure has been real.

Even so, the Range Rover Sport’s broad appeal can help support demand among shoppers who want luxury, capability, and performance in one package. Well-equipped examples with desirable features and strong condition should hold attention better than neglected or poorly optioned ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport safe?

The Range Rover Sport comes equipped with a decent list of standard driver assistance features. These include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and front-and-rear parking sensors. But if you’re looking for adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, you’ll have to pay extra. Note that these are standard features on some non-luxury vehicles that cost thousands less.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Other available driver assistance features include a surround-view parking camera, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness monitoring, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and a helpful head-up display.

Should I buy a 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends luxury with genuine versatility, including strong off-road ability and composed on-road handling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $29,307, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,153 average.
• It emphasizes plug-in hybrid efficiency while still retaining the Range Rover Sport’s traditional capability.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and all-around capability, the 2021 is the stronger default choice. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re drawn to the earlier plug-in hybrid focus, the 2020 is the better value-oriented alternative.
