Used 2021 BMW X5 for Sale nearColorado Springs, CO

How much does the 2021 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 13.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,252 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW X5 earns a 4.67/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, high-quality interior, and advanced technology. They also note that it holds its value well and delivers the kind of upscale feel you expect from a premium SUV.

The main trade-off is pricing, especially once you start adding options, and the expert review also points to less engaging handling than you might expect from BMW. In practical terms, this is a strong fit if you want a refined family SUV with broad appeal and premium features, not necessarily the sharpest driver’s SUV in the class.

The market shows 39.3% good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience with strong long-term appeal, and it also highlights the SUV’s ability to hold its value well. The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the X5 as well built, with a cabin that feels substantial and polished.

BMW also includes a broad set of standard safety and convenience features, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership friction. If you’re buying used, the bigger long-term risk is cost creep from options, repairs, and maintenance as the vehicle ages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on the listing page. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, driver-assistance systems, and any added equipment, since this model can be optioned heavily. Focus on overall condition and feature functionality, because the X5’s value can swing a lot based on how it was equipped and maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Standard xLine models emphasize an upscale look with matte aluminum grilles, satin-aluminum exterior accents, and full adaptive LED headlights, while M Sport models add a more aggressive appearance with body-color trim, high-gloss black accents, and unique interior styling. If you want the best-value setup, look for the trim that gives you the features you care about without piling on expensive extras.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with 335 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, a plug-in hybrid with 389 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque and up to 30 miles of all-electric range, plus higher-output V8 models. All engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the base model is the only rear-wheel-drive version.
• Safety package: Every X5 includes blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, fatigue and focus alert, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, but the expert review notes that it can struggle with traffic detection and lane markings.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, five USB ports, voice recognition, and a panoramic moonroof. Available upgrades include a head-up display, wireless smartphone charger, Wi-Fi hot spot, and premium audio systems.
• Fuel efficiency: The six-cylinder model is rated at 23 mpg combined, the plug-in hybrid gets 20 mpg combined on gasoline and 50 MPGe with electric assistance, and the V8 models are less efficient at 18 mpg combined for the M50i and 15 mpg combined for the X5 M.

Which 2021 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X5 is offered in 4 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive45e, M50i, M.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the most approachable choice if you want the core X5 experience with the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder, standard AWD, and the broad set of comfort, tech, and safety features that make the model appealing. It’s the trim most likely to make sense if you want the best balance of price, equipment, and everyday usefulness.
• xDrive45e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup, up to 30 miles of all-electric range, and the smooth transition between electric and gasoline power. It suits you best if you can charge regularly and want efficiency without giving up the X5’s upscale feel.
• M50i: This is the step-up choice for buyers who want a much stronger V8 and a more performance-focused personality. It makes sense if you care more about power than fuel economy and are comfortable with higher ownership costs.
• M: Pick this only if you want the most extreme performance version and are willing to accept the highest purchase price and running costs. It’s the enthusiast choice, not the value choice.

BMW’s standard safety equipment is extensive, but the more advanced driver-assistance package is not standard on every version.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,252 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.66% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,221, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $31,221 sits slightly below last year's $36,158.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the X5 still has strong demand, but pricing pressure means you should expect a more competitive resale environment than before.

The model’s broad appeal, premium image, and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Well-equipped examples in good condition are likely to remain easier to move than neglected or heavily optioned ones with unclear histories.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 safe?

The 2021 BMW X5 has been given nearly all Good ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips every X5 with blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, fatigue and focus alert, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. The available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.

The caveat is that the more advanced system did not consistently react well in testing, especially around stopped traffic and lane markings in bright sun or light rain. If safety tech matters to you, make sure the specific vehicle you’re considering has the features you want and that they work properly.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For 2021, the second-generation plug-in hybrid variant joins the lineup, giving you an additional electrified option.

The bottom line: The 2021 BMW X5 makes the most sense if you want a well-rounded luxury SUV with strong owner satisfaction, broad powertrain choice, and a softer used-car price than it had a year ago. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2021 is the better pick when you want the plug-in hybrid option and a market that currently offers decent deal availability.
