Used 2021 Land Rover Discovery for Sale nearNew York, NY

Is the 2021 Land Rover Discovery a good car?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery earns a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

It is built for you if you want a luxury three-row SUV that can handle family duty and rougher terrain, and the overview makes clear that it combines a premium image with serious off-road capability. The trade-offs are just as clear: it is described as sluggish in performance, with poor handling and sluggish touchscreen response.

Cons: sluggish performance, poor handling, and sluggish touchscreen response.

With standard all-wheel drive and a comfortable ride, it has a distinctive mix of refinement and trail-ready ability that sets it apart from many luxury family SUVs. The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 40.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Land Rover Discovery reliable?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery is presented as a modernized version of Land Rover’s fifth-generation family SUV, with new engines, refreshed styling, redesigned second-row seats, and a new infotainment system. The expert review also notes that the updated Pivi Pro system fixes many of Land Rover’s past infotainment issues, and the powertrain description points to a smooth blend of gasoline and electric power in the mild-hybrid setup.

The performance notes suggest a vehicle that is more composed and usable in daily driving than older Land Rover products, with enough power for highway merges and a refined ride. The cost-effectiveness section also says Land Rover includes a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty and a six-year corrosion/perforation warranty with unlimited mileage.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a complex luxury SUV with premium hardware, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Land Rover Discovery?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the drivetrain, electronics, and suspension, since this is a feature-rich luxury SUV with off-road hardware and multiple available systems. Pay close attention to how the cabin tech, steering, and ride quality feel on a test drive, because those are the areas where the review highlights the biggest compromises.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S, R-Dynamic S, and R-Dynamic HSE are the named trims, and the R-Dynamic treatment adds gloss black exterior trim plus two-tone leather upholstery with contrast stitching. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment, while the R-Dynamic HSE is the most fully equipped choice.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 296 horsepower and 296 pound-feet of torque, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six mild hybrid with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both use an eight-speed automatic, and all models have standard four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist tech includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera system. Adaptive cruise control is extra-cost equipment.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, wireless phone charging and a head-up display are optional, and the system supports simultaneous Bluetooth pairing.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA ratings are 21 mpg combined for the turbo-four and 21 mpg combined for the six-cylinder mild hybrid. The six-cylinder is rated at 19 mpg city and 22 mpg highway in the four-cylinder version, and 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway in the six-cylinder version.

Which 2021 Land Rover Discovery trim should I buy?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery is offered in 3 trim levels: S, R-Dynamic S, and R-Dynamic HSE.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Discovery’s core appeal: standard 4WD, leather seats, and the full 12.3-inch instrument cluster/11.4-inch touchscreen setup. It makes sense if you want the Discovery’s capability and standard equipment without stretching for extras.
• R-Dynamic S: This is the best-value choice if you want a more upscale look and feel without jumping all the way to the top trim. It adds the R-Dynamic exterior treatment and two-tone leather upholstery with contrast stitching, and it was the mid-level test vehicle in the review.
• R-Dynamic HSE: This is the range-topping trim, so it is the one to choose if you want the most premium version of the Discovery and are willing to pay for it.

Adaptive cruise control is extra-cost equipment, even though many mainstream SUVs include it as standard.

Is the 2021 Land Rover Discovery safe?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery does not have current crash-test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist tech includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera system. Adaptive cruise control is an extra-cost option, so you should check whether a used example has it if that matters to you.

Should I buy a 2021 Land Rover Discovery or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• The 2021 update brings new engines, refreshed exterior styling, redesigned second-row seats, and a new infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2021 Discovery is the right pick if you want the updated engines and tech in a luxury SUV that still leans hard into off-road ability. If you are shopping mainly on price, a nearby model year may be worth a look, but the 2021 gives you the most current version of this generation’s key upgrades.
