About 2023 Land Rover Discovery
Sometimes, a brand name is so closely tied with a particular identity that it’s impossible to break free. Sometimes, that’s a good thing, which is the case with Land Rover. The automaker’s legacy is packed with legendary performances in grueling off-road scenarios, but at the same time, its vehicles are among the most luxurious on the road. The Discovery is one of its most iconic models, and for 2023, the SUV picks up a new high-luxury trim. The current Discovery has been around for several years without a major refresh. Land Rover introduced a new Metropolitan Edition for 2023 that brings substantial luxury to the already plush off-roader. The model gets an inline six-cylinder engine that makes 355 horsepower, heating for all three rows of seating, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and unique 22-inch wheels. Other Discovery models now come standard with wireless device charging, a Meridian sound system, tri-zone climate controls, adaptive cruise control, and heated front seats. The R-Dynamic trim comes with a gloss-black roof as standard for the new model year. Land Rover offers two engines for the Discovery line in 2023. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 296 horsepower, and the upgraded mill is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 355 horsepower. Both engines send power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Discovery has always been about massive off-road capability on top of luxury, so it’s no surprise to see that the newest SUV still has plenty of tricks to help it conquer tough terrain. Even the base model comes with electronic air suspension, a terrain response system with selectable modes, and standard all-wheel drive. On the tech front, every Discovery comes standard with an 11.4-inch touchscreen that offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The newly standard Meridian sound system brings 12 speakers and 400 watts to the party, while passengers in the first two rows can keep all of their devices charged with the multiple USB ports and 12-volt outlets. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests a wide range of new vehicles, but some lower-volume automakers and high-end brands don’t see their vehicles tested every year because of the prohibitive costs involved. That’s the case with the Discovery, but the good news is that Land Rover equips a solid list of standard safety tech to the SUV. Features include traffic-sign recognition and adaptive speed limiting, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a 3D camera system, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, a head-up display, and LED headlights are available. The 2023 Discovery is on sale now and can be configured on the Land Rover website. Pricing before destination, taxes, and fees starts at $58,400 for the base Discovery S. The R-Dynamic S starts at $61,600, the R-Dynamic HSE at $73,700, and the top Metropolitan Edition at $77,800.
