How much does the 2021 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 13.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,224 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare by trim, mileage, and condition.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.67/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Sorento’s comfort, safety features, and value for money, and they also like the spacious interior and advanced technology. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a more maneuverable family crossover that still feels stylish and well equipped.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and an underwhelming base engine. It makes the most sense if you want a three-row SUV that’s easier to live with than a larger family hauler, but you should be realistic about rear-seat space and entry-level performance.

Good and great deals account for 33.6% of listings, so there’s a meaningful share of the market that may be worth a closer look.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with comfort, safety features, and value that keep owners happy over time. The expert evaluation also describes the Sorento as a compelling option for buyers who want a more manageable family crossover, and it notes that the available systems make long days behind the wheel easy to manage.

Kia also includes a broad set of standard safety and convenience features, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by family-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Sorento?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the brakes, tires, suspension, electronics, and any signs of heavy family use. Focus on seat wear, interior condition, and how well the tech and safety systems work in real-world driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX trim has the most basic seat adjustment and cloth upholstery, while higher trims add more power adjustment, leatherette, and eventually real perforated leather. Heated seats are available on all but the LX trim, and ventilation is reserved for the SX Prestige with the X-Line package.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, plus a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. The turbo setup is the stronger choice if you want easier merging and passing.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, and auto high beams. The available surround-view camera and low-speed front- and rear-camera views are helpful extras.
• Infotainment: The LX, S, and EX trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SX and SX Prestige get a 10.25-inch screen, but phone projection on that display requires a wired connection.
• Fuel efficiency: The naturally aspirated four-cylinder is rated at 24 mpg city, 29 highway, and 26 combined with FWD, or 23/25/24 with AWD. The turbo four-cylinder is rated at 22/29/25 with FWD or 21/28/24 with AWD.

Which 2021 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX, SX Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Sorento’s core design, standard safety tech, and basic infotainment, but it also has the weakest seat adjustment and the most stripped-down cabin. It makes sense only if your budget is tight and you’re comfortable keeping expectations modest.
• S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims. It’s a smart middle ground if you want a well-rounded Sorento without paying for luxury-style extras.
• EX: This trim builds on the S with more upscale equipment and remains a sensible choice if you want a nicer cabin and more everyday comfort. It’s a good fit if you care about features but don’t need the top-end luxury touches.
• SX: This is where the Sorento starts feeling more premium, with the larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen and more upscale equipment. Choose it if you want a richer tech experience and are willing to pay for it.
• SX Prestige: This is the most luxurious version, with the best interior materials and the most comfort-focused equipment. It’s the right pick if you want the Sorento to feel as upscale as possible, especially with the X-Line package.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the more affordable LX, S, and EX trims use LED reflector headlights that were rated poorly, while the more expensive SX trims with LED headlights earned top marks.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,224 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.52% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,338, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $20,338 sits slightly below last year's $23,518.

That price movement suggests the Sorento has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside left than someone who bought when prices were higher.

The model’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and family-friendly positioning should help support demand when it’s time to sell. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment are likely to hold up better than base trims with heavier wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2021 Kia Sorento earns four-star ratings overall and in frontal crash and rollover tests from NHTSA, and five-star ratings in side-impact crash tests. It also earned a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, and auto high beams. The available surround-view camera and low-speed front- and rear-camera views add useful visibility support.

One important caveat is that the more affordable LX, S, and EX trims use LED reflector headlights that received a poor IIHS rating, while the more expensive SX trims with LED headlights performed much better.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s a redesigned three-row SUV that feels easier to manage than a larger family hauler.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,510, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,338 average.
• It adds a standard 10.25-inch infotainment system on most trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the stronger buy because prices have softened and the market still offers a healthy number of clean, well-priced listings. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year update and a richer standard tech setup, the 2022 is worth a look.
