How much does the 2021 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 12.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,162 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Kia Sorento earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, safety features, value for money, spacious interior, and advanced technology. The Sorento is also framed as a strong all-around choice for families who want a more maneuverable three-row SUV, especially if you like a stylish design and a well-equipped cabin.

The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, and the base engine is underwhelming. That means it makes the most sense if you want a family crossover with strong everyday appeal rather than maximum passenger space or the most energetic acceleration.

Good and great deals account for 35.3% of listings, so you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV that delivers comfort, safety features, and value over time. It also highlights a blend of spaciousness and technology that owners seem happy to live with day after day.

The Sorento’s performance notes reinforce that sense of everyday dependability, with a smooth ride and a powertrain lineup designed for normal family use. Kia also includes a competitive set of standard safety features, which can help reduce ownership stress if you keep up with maintenance and choose a well-kept example.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a higher-mileage example that has seen hard family use or skipped maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Sorento?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of the third row, cabin wear, and any signs of heavy family use. It’s also smart to confirm that the safety and tech features work as expected, since those are major reasons to buy this model in the first place.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX trim is the most basic version, with six-way driver adjustment and 4-way front-passenger adjustment, while higher trims add more seat adjustment and more upscale materials. Heated seats are available on all but the LX trim, and ventilation is reserved for the SX Prestige with the X-Line package.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The X-Line package adds all-wheel drive, extra ride height, 20-inch wheels, and a roof rack.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, and auto high beams. The Sorento also offers adaptive cruise control, and the more affordable LX, S, and EX trims use LED reflector headlights that received a poor rating.
• Infotainment: The LX, S, and EX trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the SX and SX Prestige get a 10.25-inch screen. The larger screen requires a wired connection for smartphone projection.
• Fuel efficiency: The naturally aspirated four-cylinder models are rated at 24 mpg city and 29 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, while the turbocharged version is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive lowers efficiency.

Which 2021 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Sorento is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX, SX Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value entry point if you want the Sorento’s core space, standard safety tech, and wireless smartphone integration without paying for extras. It makes sense if you’re focused on price, but the simpler seat adjustment and more basic cabin setup make it the least upscale choice.
• S: This trim adds a more complete everyday experience than the LX, while still staying relatively accessible. It’s the best-value choice if you want a better-equipped Sorento without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This is the trim to target if you want a more polished family SUV feel, with more comfort and convenience than the lower trims. It’s a smart middle ground if you want a nicer cabin without moving into luxury-adjacent pricing.
• SX: This trim brings the larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a more premium feel, but it also requires a wired connection for smartphone projection. It suits you if you care more about features and presentation than absolute simplicity.
• SX Prestige: This is the most upscale version, with the richest materials and the most comfort-focused equipment. If you want the Sorento to feel as premium as possible, this is the one to look at.

The LX, S, and EX trims use LED reflector headlights that received a poor rating, while the more expensive SX trims get the better LED headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sorento?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,162 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,844, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $19,844 sits slightly below last year's $22,621.

That price movement suggests the Sorento has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a clean, well-maintained example, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the original market peak.

The model’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and family-friendly positioning should help support demand when it’s time to sell. Still, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether you choose a trim that buyers actually want.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2021 Kia Sorento earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and four-star ratings overall and in all frontal-impact crash tests and rollover from NHTSA, plus five-star ratings in side-impact crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver-attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, lane-following assist, and auto high beams. Adaptive cruise control is also part of the package, and the system is described as smooth and easy to live with.

One caveat is that the more affordable LX, S, and EX trims use LED reflector headlights that received a poor IIHS rating. If safety is a top priority, that trim-level difference is worth paying attention to.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned body, strong technology, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,697, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,844 average.
• It adds a standard 10.25-inch infotainment system with navigation and connected services on most trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it already delivers the redesign, strong safety tech, and a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year update and a richer standard infotainment setup, the 2022 is the better fit.

How does the 2021 Kia Sorento compare to the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Kia Sorento:

• Pros: Stylish design, Impressive technology, Standard advanced safety features.
• Cons: Priced too close to the Telluride, Cramped third row, Underwhelming base engine.

2021 Hyundai Santa Fe:

• Pros: Stylish design, Impressive technology, Comfortable.
• Cons: Underwhelming base engine.

Our experts score the 2021 Kia Sorento 7.7/10 and the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe 8.7/10. The Sorento stands out for its standard advanced safety features, but the Santa Fe gets the higher expert score and adds comfort to its strengths. Both share stylish design and impressive technology, while both are held back by an underwhelming base engine. If you need the stronger value proposition and can live with a cramped third row, the Sorento still makes sense; if comfort is a bigger priority, the Santa Fe has the edge.
