Is the 2021 Jeep Gladiator a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Jeep Gladiator earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, off-road capability, and unique design, and many also like its comfortable interior and strong diesel performance. The Gladiator’s open-air personality and customization appeal make it especially compelling if you want a truck that feels different from the rest of the midsize segment.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy, poor ride quality, and poor handling. If you want a lifestyle-focused pickup with personality and trail appeal, it fits well; if you want a more polished daily driver, you may want to look elsewhere.

The market shows 35.4% good or great deals, so there are still some attractive listings if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Jeep Gladiator reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to ruggedness, off-road capability, and a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with the diesel version also drawing praise for its strong performance. The expert review also emphasizes the Gladiator’s durable, purpose-built character and notes that its free scheduled maintenance helps offset some ownership burden.

That said, used buyers should still watch for wear tied to hard use, especially if the truck has spent time off-road or has been modified.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Gladiator?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because this truck’s lifestyle appeal can mean varied prior use. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important if you’re considering one that may have seen trail duty, aftermarket accessories, or heavy towing. Focus on overall condition, signs of abuse, and whether the equipment matches the trim you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport starts with a 5-inch display, crank windows, and the most basic top, while Sport S adds the 7-inch Uconnect 4 system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add more comfort, luxury, and special-edition content, so base-trim shoppers should be sure they’re comfortable with the simpler setup.
• Powertrain: The Gladiator offers a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 and a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6. The diesel brings strong low-end torque and better fuel economy than the gas engine, but it requires an automatic transmission and is not available on the Mojave.
• Safety package: The standard setup is limited to a reversing camera, while available driver aids include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Some trims need added equipment to get the full suite.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 5-inch display, Bluetooth, voice text reply for Android devices, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Uconnect 4 with a 7-inch touchscreen adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Uconnect 4C brings an 8.4-inch screen, navigation, connected services, remote start, and a WiFi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns noticeably better fuel economy than the gas engine, and testing showed 22.6 mpg on a mountainous loop. The standard V6 returned 20.3 mpg in highway-heavy testing.

Which 2021 Jeep Gladiator trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Gladiator is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Willys, Overland, 80th Anniversary Edition, and High Altitude.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the most affordable entry point, but it comes with the most basic top, crank windows, and the 5-inch infotainment display. It makes sense if you want the Gladiator’s core personality at the lowest price and plan to add your own equipment later.
• Sport S: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 7-inch Uconnect 4 system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is a major usability upgrade over the base setup. If you want the most balanced mix of price and everyday livability, this is the trim to target.
• Willys: This trim adds a blacked-out grille, limited-slip rear differential, rock rails, and 32-inch all-terrain tires. It suits you if you want a more trail-ready look and hardware without jumping to a luxury-oriented model.
• Overland: This trim moves the Gladiator toward comfort and convenience, and it’s also the first trim to get the forward-facing Trail Cam. It’s a good fit if you want more features and better visibility for off-road driving.
• 80th Anniversary Edition: This version adds special badges, finishes, materials, and more, sitting just above the Overland. Choose it if you want commemorative styling and a more distinctive appearance.
• High Altitude: This is the luxury-oriented choice, with body-color detailing, black 20-inch wheels, and premium Nappa leather. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale Gladiator experience.

The safety package is limited on the base trim, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, shop higher or verify the equipment carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Gladiator?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but still enough variation to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,028 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,838, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Gladiator's resale value?

The current average of $29,838 sits slightly below last year's $32,499.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if prices continue to ease. The Gladiator’s distinctive appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Gladiator safe?

The Gladiator earns a four-star frontal-impact rating from NHTSA and three-star rollover ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment is limited to a reversing camera, but available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. The expert review also notes that blind-spot monitoring is especially useful because the side mirrors are narrow.

The main caveat is that the standard safety setup is sparse, so you should confirm which driver aids are actually installed on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Gladiator or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds a turbo-diesel engine option, free scheduled maintenance, and fresh special-edition models.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,346, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $29,838 average.
• It offers strong off-road identity and midsize pickup usefulness.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current version, the 2021 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2021 updates, the 2020 is worth a look.
