CarGurus Analysis: 2021 INFINITI QX50
overall
Summary
With 499 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,941.00, 30.7% of 2021 INFINITI QX50s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 INFINITI QX50 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
80.2% of 2021 QX50 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 INFINITI QX50 stands out as a value-oriented luxury crossover with accessible entry-level pricing and a healthy dose of standard driver-assistance features. It also brings a fresh design and the cutting-edge variable-compression turbocharged VC-Turbo engine introduced with the redesign, giving it a distinctive place in the segment.
For 2021, the QX50 adds more safety equipment throughout the trim lineup, a standard WiFi hotspot, and greater availability of the automaker’s ProPilot Assist suite of driver-assistance features. Those updates make it easier to recommend for buyers who want a well-equipped premium SUV without stretching too far up the price ladder.
Its strengths are easy to appreciate in daily driving: stylish design, great ride quality, and a quiet cabin. The tradeoffs are just as clear, though, with poor handling, sluggish performance, and outdated technology limiting its appeal for shoppers who prioritize sharper dynamics or a more modern infotainment experience.

Reviewed a 2021 INFINITI QX50 on Dec 27, 2021
I was looking for features similar to my 2019 Honda CR-V, and found more. A feature that I sought with the QX50 (which was not with my CR-V), was self starting windshield wipers. My new QX50 does have this feature. I have not found any missing features. My new QX50 can be compared to my previous Honda CR-V, and Mercedes GLA250.

Is the 2021 INFINITI QX50 a good car?
Yes — with a 5/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.17/10, the 2021 INFINITI QX50 lands as a strong pick if you want a premium crossover that emphasizes comfort and value. The model’s fresh design, VC-Turbo engine, great ride quality, and quiet cabin give it a distinctive appeal in the luxury compact SUV segment.
The trade-offs are clear, though: poor handling and sluggish performance hold it back if you care most about sharp driving dynamics. Outdated technology is another drawback, even though the 2021 update adds more safety equipment and broader availability of ProPilot Assist.
The model scores 8/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
For you, that means the QX50 makes the most sense if you want a well-equipped luxury crossover for daily driving rather than a sporty one. 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 INFINITI QX50 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The QX50’s appeal starts with its smooth, quiet powertrain and continues with a cabin and ride quality that are built for easy daily use. Its VC-Turbo engine is the standout engineering piece here, and the overall package is aimed at buyers who want comfort and refinement more than excitement.
The powertrain is described as smooth and quiet in normal use, and the CVT has been refined enough to avoid the worst of the droning and unrefined behavior that can hurt long-term ownership satisfaction. On the cost side, the model’s standard safety equipment and relatively accessible pricing help it feel like a sensible luxury buy.
If you’re shopping used, the main long-term risk is that the QX50’s weaker performance and dated tech may matter more to you over time than they do on a short test drive.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 INFINITI QX50?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin electronics, driver-assistance systems, and overall condition, since this model’s value depends heavily on how well its premium features have been maintained.
Pay close attention to trim content, because the equipment spread is wide and some desirable features are reserved for higher trims. You’ll also want to confirm that the safety and infotainment features you expect are actually present on the specific vehicle you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from Pure to Luxe, Essential, Sensory, and Autograph, and the lower trims are where you’ll feel the biggest feature gaps. The base Pure trim misses lane-departure prevention, blind-spot intervention, and ProPilot Assist, while higher trims add more comfort, tech, and convenience equipment.
- Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. The VC-Turbo setup is the model’s engineering calling card, and the engine is tuned for a balance of power and efficiency rather than outright speed.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes blind-spot warning, predictive forward-collision warning, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, automatic collision notification, emergency call, rearview monitor, hill-start assist, and high-beam assist. Lane-departure prevention and blind-spot intervention are standard on all but the base Pure trim, and traffic sign recognition is standard on Essential and higher trims.
- Infotainment: Essential and higher trims get Infiniti’s InTouch system with dual displays, including an 8-inch upper screen and a 7-inch lower screen. Apple CarPlay works seamlessly, and the model also offers a WiFi hotspot and ProPilot Assist availability on most trims.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel economy is 22 mpg city/28 highway/25 combined.
Which 2021 INFINITI QX50 trim should I buy?
The 2021 INFINITI QX50 is offered in 5 trim levels: Pure, Luxe, Essential, Sensory, Autograph.
Here's the short version:
- Pure: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest price and are comfortable giving up some of the more advanced driver-assistance and convenience features. It still gives you the core QX50 experience, but it is the trim where the feature gaps are most noticeable.
- Luxe: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a huge panoramic moonroof, roof rails, LED fog lights, heated front seats, remote start, and ProPilot Assist. If you want a strong mix of comfort and safety tech without pushing too far up the price ladder, this is the one to target.
- Essential: This trim is the smart choice if you want more technology, including front parking sensors, road sign recognition, navigation, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. It also gets the dual-screen InTouch setup, making it a better fit if you care about day-to-day usability.
- Sensory: This is the recommendation if you want the most balanced blend of comfort and technology. It adds 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, reverse-tilting side mirrors, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, a head-up display, and Bose audio with 16 speakers.
- Autograph: This is the top trim if you want the most luxury content, including tri-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, a power hands-free liftgate, ambient cabin lighting, direct adaptive steering, rear sunshades, and semi-aniline leather seating. It’s the most indulgent version, but the value proposition is strongest lower in the lineup.
Lane-departure prevention and blind-spot intervention are standard on all but the base Pure trim, and traffic sign recognition is standard on Essential and higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 INFINITI QX50?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.
- Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 518 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.11% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,941.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 INFINITI QX50's resale value?
The current average of $20,948 sits slightly below last year's $24,677.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit how much value you recover later if you sell. For a future owner, the softer pricing can be a double-edged sword: it improves affordability now, but it also means the model has already absorbed a meaningful chunk of depreciation.
Even so, the QX50’s premium positioning, standard safety equipment, and strong comfort appeal can help support demand among shoppers looking for a used luxury crossover. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 INFINITI QX50 safe?
It earns four-star ratings for rollover resistance from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include blind-spot warning, predictive forward-collision warning and forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, automatic collision notification, emergency call, rearview monitor, hill-start assist, and high-beam assist. The QX50 also includes an Easy-fill tire alert, and lane-departure prevention plus blind-spot intervention are standard on all but the base Pure trim.
The driver-assistance suite is ProPilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centering assistance. It is standard on all but the base Pure trim, so you’ll want to confirm that feature if you’re comparing lower-trim examples.
The IIHS gave the QX50 Good ratings for moderate overlap front and side crash protection, and it also earned the highest-possible Superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention. The main caveat is that NHTSA did not test it for crashworthiness overall, so you’re relying on partial federal crash data rather than a full set of results.
Should I buy a 2021 INFINITI QX50 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.11% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model year adds more safety equipment throughout the lineup, a standard WiFi hotspot, and broader availability of ProPilot Assist.
The bottom line: If you want a used luxury crossover with strong comfort, good safety content, and a softer price than it had a year ago, the 2021 QX50 is the better path. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the current market softness to focus on well-kept examples and target the trims that deliver the best mix of features and value.
