How much does the 2021 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 3.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating, and they also like the value and attractive features it delivers. That lines up with the overview’s emphasis on style, sophistication, space, and sportiness in a compact-car package, plus its appeal as a more upscale-feeling mainstream choice. The main trade-offs are a polarizing design and interior materials that can feel cheap.

With 33.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively without feeling rushed.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car people feel good about living with over time, especially because it is described as smooth, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and a strong value. The expert review also reinforces that sense of dependability by calling the Elantra a bargain and highlighting its well-rounded everyday behavior. On the ownership side, the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty, and three free years of scheduled maintenance help reduce early ownership risk.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t been neglected despite the strong warranty coverage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, and suspension behavior. Because the car’s appeal depends heavily on condition and equipment, it is worth confirming that the features you want are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering. Pay extra attention to interior wear and any signs that the car has been used hard or repaired poorly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited each bring a different feel, and the higher trims add a nicer and higher-tech cabin. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, while the Limited stands out for its more upscale interior presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, while the hybrid uses a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor and a six-speed dry DCT. The standard engine is fine around town, but it feels weaker for highway passing; the hybrid is the better pick if you want stronger efficiency.
• Safety package: SmartSense is standard and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. Blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning are also included on every version.
• Infotainment: SE, SEL, and N Line use an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Limited upgrades to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and a 10.25-inch digital instrument screen, but you lose wireless smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 35 mpg combined with 17-inch wheels, while the hybrid is rated at 54 mpg combined in SEL form and 50 mpg combined in Limited form. The N Line is rated at 28 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the simplest way into the redesigned Elantra, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path to the car’s new styling and core safety tech.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience and can be paired with the hybrid powertrain.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier setup, including the turbocharged engine, manual transmission availability, and a more engaging chassis.
• Limited: This is the most upscale choice, with the richer cabin, larger screens, and the most premium-feeling tech presentation.

Safety-wise, every version gets SmartSense and the broader standard driver-assistance suite, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep distress pricing.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,155 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,365, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $15,733 sits slightly below last year's $16,382.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against a future seller if you buy at the wrong time. On the other hand, the Elantra’s strong value story, broad appeal, and efficient ownership profile can help keep demand steady. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to resale later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2021 Elantra comes with SmartSense, Hyundai’s standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. It also includes blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning on every version. Higher-level safety upgrades add cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a broader mix of style, technology, comfort, and value than the outgoing model.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $13,615, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $15,733 average.
• The outgoing model adds value-focused improvements and standard safety upgrades.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $16,921, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $15,733 average.
• It builds on the redesign with strong fuel economy, safety tech, and a roomy cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive redesign-era Elantra with strong tech and value, the 2021 is the right target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want to spend more for a slightly newer model-year alternative.
