Used 2021 Honda HR-V for Sale nearBuffalo, NY

How much does the 2021 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 2.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,291 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Honda HR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda HR-V earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, reliability, and value for money, and many also like its practical size and useful feature set. The HR-V’s small-SUV packaging and easy-to-live-with nature fit shoppers who want everyday usefulness without moving up to a larger crossover. On the downside, the expert review points to outdated technology and poor visibility, and some owners want more power and more tech features.

With 32.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability, comfort, and value for money, with drivers describing it as practical and suitable for everyday use. The expert review also emphasizes the HR-V’s solid, easy-to-live-with character and its reputation for dependable ownership. Honda’s warranty coverage is competitive for the segment, and the model’s straightforward mechanical setup supports that reputation.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about age-related trade-offs, especially if you want modern tech or stronger acceleration.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda HR-V?

At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, lighting, and any signs of prior repair work. Because visibility and technology are recurring weak points, it also makes sense to test the infotainment system, camera views, and driver-assistance features during your drive. Focus on overall condition and equipment level, since trim differences matter a lot on this model.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base LX models miss fog lights and the more useful infotainment setup, while EX and EX-L models add push-button start, automatic climate control, a moonroof, heated front seats, and leather upholstery on EX-L.
• Powertrain: The HR-V uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with 141 horsepower and a CVT, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive available on all trim levels.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard only on the EX and EX-L trim levels, and it includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, Road Departure Mitigation, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and LaneWatch.
• Infotainment: The base LX gets a 5-inch display, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker audio system; the Sport and higher trims get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and EX and EX-L add SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The HR-V is rated at 30 mpg combined, 28 mpg city, and 34 mpg highway with front-wheel drive; all-wheel-drive versions are rated at 29 mpg combined in LX trim and 28 mpg combined in Sport, EX, and EX-L spec.

Which 2021 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda HR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the HR-V, but it’s also the most stripped-down version, with the smallest display and the least advanced infotainment setup. It makes sense only if your priority is keeping the purchase price as low as possible.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the styling upgrades that make the HR-V feel less basic. If you want the most useful mix of price and everyday equipment, this is the one to target.
• EX: This trim is the better choice if you want Honda Sensing and more comfort features, including push-button start, automatic climate control, a moonroof, and heated front seats. It’s the smarter pick if safety tech matters to you.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale version, adding leather upholstery and the same comfort and safety advantages as EX. Choose it if you want the most premium-feeling HR-V and are willing to pay more for it.

Honda Sensing is standard only on the EX and EX-L trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,291 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,436, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $18,975 sits slightly below last year's $19,383.

That softer pricing suggests the HR-V has become a more approachable used buy, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays competitive. If you buy well now, you may be able to limit depreciation by choosing a clean, well-equipped example with strong demand. Trim level and condition will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda HR-V safe?

The HR-V received top “Good” scores in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, and the top “Superior” rating for its optional front-crash prevention tech, but got “Marginal” and “Poor” headlight ratings depending on trim level, and an “Acceptable” rating for LATCH child-seat anchor ease of use. It earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash and all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, Road Departure Mitigation, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and LaneWatch. That suite is standard only on the EX and EX-L trim levels, so lower trims miss out on those features.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model carries over without major updates, so you’re mainly shopping for value rather than new features.

The bottom line: If you want a practical, comfortable, and value-oriented small SUV, the 2021 HR-V is a sensible used buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the softer market and broad inventory make this a good year to shop carefully and focus on condition, trim, and equipment. If you want newer tech or a more modern-feeling cabin, you may want to compare it with other years before deciding.
