Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Genesis GV80 4.92 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Genesis GV80 stands out as Genesis’s first SUV, and that alone gives it a special place in the brand’s lineup. It is a three-row luxury crossover that was designed to help Genesis reach a broader audience in the luxury SUV market, while also sharing a platform with the second-generation G80. Its appeal starts with stylish design and continues with impressive technology, giving it the kind of upscale presence buyers often want in this segment.
There is also a strong value story here, since the GV80 is described as excellent value for money. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the base engine is underwhelming, and the third row is cramped. Owner feedback reinforces the GV80’s luxurious feel, comfortable seats, strong performance from the turbo engine, and high-tech interior, while also noting that the ride can feel a bit wallowy at times.

Misses nothing. Comparable to the BMW X5, the Audi 6 series, the Porsche Cayenne, the Lincoln aviator. There are a lot of cars that the Genesis ranks in the same category however, you get more standard options for less money.

The features were great as well as the value. This GV80 is missing nothing and I would compare it to Mercedes Benz. Nothing else compares with the value and price of this vehicle

This car is packed with features and driver convenience functions. I traded in my 2020 Escalade and I am glad I did. Although considerably smaller, the technology in this car is lightyears ahead of the 2020 Cadillac.

How much does the 2021 Genesis GV80 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $31,548 |
| Year-Round Low | $31,548 |
| Year-Round High | $35,337 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $35,258 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.52% |
Prices have softened 10.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 413 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Genesis GV80 a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.92/5 model from owners, paired with an expert rating of 7.5/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the GV80’s luxurious feel, comfortable seats, strong performance from the turbo engine, and high-tech interior. That lines up well with its role as a three-row luxury crossover aimed at buyers who want style, technology, and a premium cabin.
The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the cramped third row. If you want a luxury SUV with a strong value story and upscale presence, this year’s GV80 fits that brief well. Good and great deals make up 35.4% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Genesis GV80 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, comfortable, and strong in everyday use, with repeated praise for the turbo engine and high-tech interior. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on the GV80 to deliver a polished ownership experience rather than feeling like a one-off standout.
Genesis also backs the GV80 with a long warranty and complimentary scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy family use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Genesis GV80?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lot of luxury features that can be expensive to sort out later. Focus on cabin condition, electronics, and how the suspension and drivetrain feel on a test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The GV80’s trim structure changes equipment substantially, with wheel sizes, cabin materials, and feature content varying by version. Base trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more standard luxury and convenience equipment.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, or a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. The four-cylinder is adequate, but the V6 is the smoother and stronger choice.
- Safety package: The GV80 includes blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, safe-exit assist, adaptive cruise control with machine learning, highway-driving assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. Some advanced convenience and driver-assistance content is tied to higher trims.
- Infotainment: The GV80 uses a 14.5-inch HD widescreen display, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and receives over-the-air updates. Navigation is standard, and the system can store cloud profiles for personalized settings.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5T is rated at 21 mpg city/25 mpg highway/23 mpg combined with RWD and 21/25/22 with AWD. The 3.5T AWD is rated at 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway/20 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Genesis GV80 trim should I buy?
The 2021 Genesis GV80 is offered in 7 trim levels: 2.5T RWD Standard, 2.5T RWD Advanced, 2.5T RWD Prestige, 2.5T AWD Standard, 2.5T AWD Advanced, 2.5T AWD Prestige, 3.5T AWD Standard, 3.5T AWD Advanced, 3.5T AWD Advanced+, 3.5T AWD Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- 2.5T RWD Standard: This is the entry point if you want the GV80’s design, cabin quality, and core tech at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you value the SUV’s upscale feel more than maximum power or all-weather traction.
- 2.5T RWD Advanced: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the top of the range. If you want a balanced mix of luxury and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
- 2.5T RWD Prestige: Choose this if you want a more fully loaded rear-wheel-drive version and are willing to pay for extra comfort and convenience content.
- 2.5T AWD Standard: This is the right pick if you want the four-cylinder GV80 with all-wheel drive for added traction in poor weather.
- 2.5T AWD Advanced: This trim is a strong middle ground if you want AWD plus more upscale equipment than the base AWD model.
- 2.5T AWD Prestige: Pick this if you want the most luxurious four-cylinder version and expect to keep the SUV for the long haul.
- 3.5T AWD Standard: This is the best choice if you care most about the smoother, stronger V6 and want to start with the more powerful drivetrain.
- 3.5T AWD Advanced: A good step up if you want the V6’s performance with more comfort and convenience features.
- 3.5T AWD Advanced+: This is for buyers who want a richer feature set without going all the way to the top trim.
- 3.5T AWD Prestige: This is the top-end choice if you want the most complete GV80 experience, including the highest level of equipment mentioned in the data.
The safety package is extensive across the lineup, but some advanced features are reserved for higher trims, so it’s worth comparing equipment carefully before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Genesis GV80?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 413 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 81.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $31,548, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Genesis GV80's resale value?
The current average of $31,548 sits slightly below last year's $35,258.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the key implication is that resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Because the GV80 has strong owner satisfaction and a premium image, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Genesis GV80 safe?
The Genesis GV80 has not yet been rated for crashworthiness by IIHS or NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The GV80 comes with a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, safe-exit assist, adaptive cruise control with machine learning, highway-driving assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.
That gives you a strong active-safety foundation, but you should still pay close attention to the exact trim you’re considering because some advanced convenience and assistance features are reserved for higher versions.
Should I buy a 2021 Genesis GV80 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 GV80 is Genesis’s first SUV, and it brings a strong value story, upscale design, and high-tech cabin to the brand’s lineup.
The bottom line: If you want the GV80’s first-year appeal, strong value, and premium-feeling interior, the 2021 is a compelling buy. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and target the lower end of the market range, but the best examples are the ones worth moving on quickly.
