The midsize luxury SUV segment is chock full of well-regarded nameplates including the BMW X5, the Lexus RX, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the Porsche Cayenne. The Genesis GV80 may not have the name recognition of its peers, but that doesn’t mean it can’t compete on equal footing, not least because it benefits from an attractive starting price.

What’s New for the 2027 Genesis GV80
The changes Genesis made to the GV80 for the 2027 model year are all fairly minor. The optional (and small) third row of seats is available on more trim levels and is manually folding on 2.5T RWD (rear-wheel drive), 2.5T AWD (all-wheel drive), and 2.5T Select AWD trims. Last year, all the GV80’s third-row options were powered, but for 2027 that’s limited to 2.5T Advanced, 2.5T Prestige, and all 3.5T models. Also new for 2027 in 3.5T Prestige AWD and 3.5T Prestige Black AWD models is a front passenger seat with memory, Smart Posture Care, and Ergo-Motion features that promise to be more comfortable on long road trips. Beyond that, Capri Blue, Storr Green, and Storr Green Matte paint colors were replaced with Bering Blue, Ceres Blue, and Ceres Blue Matte.
Design
When Genesis released the GV80 for the 2021 model year, it introduced styling features that included front and rear two-line lighting elements and the brand’s signature—and very large—shield-shaped crest grille. A refresh in 2025 kept these design elements and added even more ornate details. The GV80’s sides are defined by a sweeping character line that arcs down toward the back of the vehicle, and the pair of chrome fender embellishments creates a visual connection between the two-line headlamps and taillights.
Powertrain
Genesis offers two engine options in the 2027 GV80. A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque comes standard in models wearing the 2.5T badge, while 3.5T models benefit from a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that produces 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board. In its most efficient form with the 2.5T engine and RWD, the GV80 is estimated to return 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. With AWD, 2.5T models are rated at 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. Genesis GV80 3.5T models are estimated at 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The Genesis GV80 can tow up to 6,000 pounds when properly equipped.
Interior
Genesis vehicles are known for their swanky interiors, and the GV80’s luxurious cabin doesn’t disappoint. Base 2.5T models and the 2.5T Select AWD have leatherette upholstery that looks good, but upper-tier GV80 models wear beautiful quilted leather in multiple colors. Interior trim varies by model, with many GV80 models getting unique Olive Ash or Basalt trim pieces.
Technology
All Genesis GV80 models feature a standard 27-inch OLED screen that spans the top of the dashboard and incorporates a digital gauge cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. A wireless phone charger, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are also standard. A head-up display is included with 2.5T Prestige and all 3.5T models. A 12-speaker audio system comes standard and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen system is available.
