Used 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 for Sale nearTucson, AZ

How much does the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 9.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 7,213 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 5.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, comfort, advanced technology, and strong engine performance. The Sierra also stands out as a flexible truck with multiple body styles and multiple powertrain options, which makes it easier to match to your needs.

The trade-offs are clear: the technology is described as outdated, the interior materials feel cheap, and the base engine is underwhelming. For you, that means the Sierra makes the most sense if you value capability, comfort, and the right configuration more than class-leading refinement.

Good and great deals account for 31.7% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a truck that owners feel good about living with over time, especially because they highlight its value, comfort, and strong performance. The expert test-drive notes also emphasize that the Duramax diesel is a bargain and that the 10-speed automatic is well matched to the engine, which supports the case for dependable day-to-day use.

The diesel setup is especially appealing if you want strong torque and a powertrain that feels well sorted in regular driving. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck has been maintained properly and configured in a way that avoids the Sierra’s weaker base-engine experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the truck’s condition, equipment operation, and signs of wear from towing or heavy use. It also helps to compare trims closely, since the Sierra’s appeal changes a lot depending on how it’s equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sierra’s styling and upscale Denali trim level are key differentiators, while the AT4 adds an off-road-ready setup with a 2-inch suspension lift, skid plates, a locking rear differential, and unique design details. Base versions can feel less special, so you should pay close attention to whether the truck has the features you want.
• Powertrain: The Sierra offers multiple powertrain options, and the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder is the standout choice for its strong torque, smooth 10-speed automatic, and impressive fuel economy. The base engine is described as underwhelming, so it’s worth checking which engine is installed.
• Safety package: Forward collision warning, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking are available, while blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning come on Denali and are optional on other trims. Lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and a Safety Alert Seat are also available depending on trim.
• Infotainment: The Sierra offers a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and navigation. The available Technology Package adds a 15-inch head-up display and an 8-inch driver information display.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is rated at 24 mpg in combined driving, and the test truck averaged 21.1 mpg in real-world use.

Which 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 3 trim levels: Elevation, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation: This is the trim most buyers should strongly consider if you want to keep costs in check while still getting a custom appearance and access to a wide range of options. It can stay around the lower end of the Sierra’s pricing while still letting you build it up thoughtfully.
• AT4: This is the best fit if you want the Sierra’s rugged side, with the off-road-ready suspension, skid plates, locking rear differential, and available Duramax diesel making it the most capability-focused choice. It suits you best if you want comfort and trail-ready hardware in one package.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the upscale Denali trim level serving as the Sierra’s most premium expression. It makes the most sense if you want the most upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.

Safety features such as forward collision warning, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking are optional on the Sierra, while blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning come standard on Denali.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 7,213 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,355, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $34,355 sits slightly below last year's $37,855.

That price movement suggests the Sierra has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current market average or below it, you may reduce the amount of value left to lose over your ownership period.

Trim and engine choice will matter a lot when you go to sell, especially if your truck has the more desirable diesel setup or a well-regarded higher trim. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star protection for the driver and front passenger in the frontal-impact test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the front passenger protection in the small-overlap frontal-impact test as "Marginal" and the headlights as "Poor."

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sierra’s safety equipment is uneven for a premium-branded truck. Forward collision warning, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking are available, while blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning come standard on Denali and are optional on other trims. Lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and a Safety Alert Seat are also available depending on trim, and adaptive cruise control is optional on SLT, AT4, and Denali.

The weak crash-test results are the main caveat here, especially the IIHS ratings and the marginal LATCH accessibility rating for child seats. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to trim and equipment, and verify exactly which driver-assistance features are installed on the truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its flexible body styles, multiple powertrain options, and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $32,712, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $34,355 average.
• It blends SUV-like comfort with useful everyday truck practicality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,930, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $34,355 average.
• It brings a bolder redesign with more upscale tech and added utility.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the sensible pick. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2020 can save you money while still delivering much of the Sierra’s core appeal.
