CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Dodge Challenger
overall

Summary
With 186 currently listed for sale near Bakersfield, CA and an average price of $40,748.00, 45.2% of 2021 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Dodge Challenger 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
100.0% of 2021 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Dodge Challenger stands out because it leans hard into style and straight-line speed rather than trying to be a balanced all-around sports coupe. It is described as a single-minded sled of straight-line speed that has aged into a serious, high-tech dragster, and that character is part of its appeal. The Challenger also offers incredible performance value and multiple powertrain options, which helps explain why it remains attractive to buyers who want muscle-car personality without giving up choice.
That focus comes with tradeoffs. Its handling is outclassed by the competition, the back seat is cramped, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the Challenger’s combination of cargo space, power, and distinctive presence gives it a clear identity that few cars can match.

This is an amazing car! It is fast, and feels extremely solid. The car is very comfortable to drive, and the placement of gauges and instruments is quite sensible. Apple CarPlay support is excellent, and integrates well with the vehicle. The vehicle also offers UConnect and Android. The entertainment system is high quality. The only negative is that there is no facility for automatic raising of the front windows.

What an amazing car! I bought a 2021 GT less than a week ago and I love it. I cant believe how many features the car has. Just to name a few: Driver seat memory, heated seats, heated steering wheel, launch control, adaptive cruise control, the Harmon\Kardon sound system, it has everything you could ever want and more. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about a Challenger!

2021 Dodge Challenger Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Dodge Challenger prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Dodge Challenger cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $32,283 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,188.98 |
| Year-Round High | $33,413.86 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $33,420 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.40% |
Prices have softened 3.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,402 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $30,188.98, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.00/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the Challenger for its power, comfort, unique styling, impressive technology, features, and driving experience. The recurring trade-offs are limited passenger-seat adjustment and concerns about wet-weather driving. That lines up with the car’s use case: you’re buying a muscle coupe with a strong personality, not a balanced all-around sports car.
The market also looks supportive, with 30.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free enough for many buyers to trust over time, especially when you value its power and comfort. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Challenger as offering reliable power and backing it with a full warranty. It also notes that the car serves a loyal customer base with a wide range of powertrains and custom options.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the engine concept and more about finding an example that hasn’t been neglected or abused.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Challenger?
At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or signs of hard use. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and evidence of abuse or poor-weather driving. Because this model can be bought in many performance levels, the condition of the specific car matters more than the badge on the trunk.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base car is described as decent but not especially impressive, and it lacks the more upscale touches found higher up the range. Upper trims add softer Nappa leather seats, contrast stitching, faux-suede headliners, carbon fiber on the dash, and thicker steering wheels with metal shift paddles.
- Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 is quiet and efficient for highway cruising, but it has little interest in being fun. The R/T’s 5.7-liter V8 is the place to start if you want real muscle-car character, while higher trims add more power and more serious hardware.
- Safety package: No driver assists are standard. Adaptive cruise control is optional, and blind-spot monitoring is also available. The optional forward emergency braking feature is rated only at the lowest basic level.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 8.4-inch screen should be standard, and the system can show performance data in real time through Performance Pages.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 can sip fuel at 30 mpg, while other versions can return around 20 mpg or much less depending on configuration. The high-output Hellcat models can dip below 10 mpg.
Which 2021 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2021 Dodge Challenger is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SXT is the entry point, but it comes with the least exciting powertrain and the most basic presentation. It is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more performance and more visual presence.
- Sweet-spot trim: The R/T is the best value if you want the Challenger experience to feel properly muscular. It adds the V8, a six-speed manual, an active exhaust, and an upgraded suspension.
- Premium/top trim: The R/T Scat Pack is the strongest all-around choice if you want a bigger performance jump. It adds the 6.4-liter V8, larger Brembo brakes, adaptive Bilstein dampers, and six-piston front brakes.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
The safety package note is simple: advanced safety features are not standard, and the available driver-assistance list is limited.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Challenger?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,402 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,188.98, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $32,283 sits slightly below last year's $33,420.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can make the car easier to buy now but slightly less favorable for a seller trying to maximize return. If you own one, the current pricing trend implies you may need to be patient to get top dollar. Well-kept examples should still hold attention because the Challenger’s appeal is tied to its distinctive character and broad enthusiast demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger safe?
The Challenger earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, but it also earns four-star ratings for the driver in a frontal crash and for rollover testing, and five-star ratings for the passenger in a frontal crash and for side impact.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety picture is mixed because the IIHS gives it only good marks in two tests, acceptable ratings for roof strength and head restraints, a marginal result for the driver in the small overlap front test, and a poor body-structure result. The optional forward emergency braking feature is rated only basic, and blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise are the only other driver assists available.
Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 stands out for its broad powertrain range and strong performance value.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $29,021, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,283 average.
- It blends retro styling with modern technology and heart-pounding performance.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of inventory, pricing, and enthusiast appeal, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play and still delivers the Challenger’s core personality.
