The Chrysler Pacifica brought style, flair and luxury to the minivan segment when it arrived for 2017. 2021 brings a major facelift, new content, a simplified lineup, and even a new top trim level. The Pacifica’s front end is all-new this year, encompassing a redesigned bumper, grille arrangement, and headlights. Around the back, a striking full-width taillight arrangement borders the rear window. These changes enhance what was already a highly artful product. Powertrain-wise, the Pacifica retains its 3.6-liter V6 with 287 horsepower and 282 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive (FWD). The big change is that a new all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is available across the range. Under normal loads, the AWD Pacifica disconnects the rear axle for fuel savings. However, when you need extra traction, it can split any amount of power between the front and rear axles. Fuel economy isn’t yet available for this engine. Touring, Touring L, and Limited trims return for 2021. The new Pinnacle trim brings the Pacifica to new heights, coddling you with piano-black trim and Caramel Nappa leather for all three rows, matching lumbar pillows in the second-row captain’s chairs, and an “Ultra” console that flows into the dashboard. All versions of the Pacifica retain Stow ‘N Go seating: second and third rows that fold easily into the floor, and when in place, leave hidden storage bins under the floor. On the technology front, the Pacifica debuts Chrysler’s new Uconnect 5 system. It comes with a 10.5-inch touchscreen, up from 8.4 inches, Alexa skill integration for intuitive voice commands, a home screen that allows for six user profiles, and the ability to connect two phones simultaneously. You can even get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. If you have a family, you’ll appreciate the high-definition FamCAM, which is accessed through the touchscreen. It lets you view rear-facing child seat occupants or zoom to a specific seat for a close-up view. Chrysler didn’t remove any safety features from the Pacifica. Standard items include a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with traffic crawl, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. For 2021, the optional Safety Sphere Package gets you a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and a parking assistant. Chrysler had a highly competitive product on its hands when it first released the Pacifica minivan in 2017. But rather than resting on its laurels, the company massaged its people-carrier into a world-class vehicle. Look for the new and improved version to debut in 2020.
