CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer
overall

Summary
With 1,670 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,541.00, 31.0% of 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer 4.33 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
77.8% of 2021 Trailblazer models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer stands out as a small crossover SUV that brings stylish design and plenty of technology at an affordable price. It was positioned as a new entry-point for younger and more cost-conscious buyers, and it came in L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS trim levels, with the latter three available with an optional all-wheel-drive system. That combination gives it broad appeal for shoppers who want a compact SUV with a more expressive look and a range of trims to fit different needs.
Behind the wheel, the Trailblazer’s strengths include great handling and easy-to-use technology, which help it feel approachable in everyday driving. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the base engine is described as underwhelming, the seats are uncomfortable, and cargo space is limited. For buyers who value style, simple tech, and a lower entry price more than outright power or maximum utility, the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer offers a distinctive package.

Lots of features. With the trailblazer. I was comparing it to the blazer but this was too big. Great value The only thing in my view would be the heated steering wheel.

After looking into a Blazer very hard, I decided to look at the TrailBlazer as a step down. I’m glad I did. This my not be a Blazer but still very similar features and is very nice vehicle. For the value we paid for the TrailBlazer, it’s still very well equipped vehicle. The only down side is the motor, peppy but not a 6 cylinder.

I love my little trailblazer but it’s only been a few days so I hopeful that it’s going to be a really good suv for me. I love the sporty look and it’s so roomy inside.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, the seats are uncomfortable, and cargo space is limited. That makes it a better fit if you value style, simple tech, and a lower entry price more than maximum power or utility.
With 27.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?
Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels good to live with over time, with mentions of good gas economy and a spacious interior that supports everyday use. The expert evaluation adds that the powertrain is agreeable in use and that the Trailblazer supplies enough power under most driving conditions to keep up with traffic.
Chevrolet also includes your first maintenance visit free of charge, which helps lower early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure any example you consider has been cared for properly, especially given the reports of water leakage issues in some units.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are looking at a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and any signs of water intrusion or poor repair work. Because the Trailblazer’s appeal depends heavily on its tech and comfort, make sure the features you want are actually present and working as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup is more basic, while Activ adds a more rugged appearance with skid plate trim, unique 17-inch wheels, sport-terrain tires, a larger grille, and standard two-tone paint. If you want the most appealing mix of style and equipment, the higher trims are the ones that better match the Trailblazer’s personality.
- Powertrain: The front-wheel-drive L, LS, and LT use a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, while other versions use a turbocharged 1.3-liter 3-cylinder with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft. AWD swaps in a 9-speed automatic instead of the CVT.
- Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth pairing for two phones, SiriusXM, Teen Driver, and a WiFi hotspot. An upgraded system on Activ and RS adds an 8-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and cloud-connected personalization.
- Fuel efficiency: The testing loop returned 26.6 mpg for the Activ AWD, and the official combined rating is 28 mpg.
Which 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?
The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Trailblazer nameplate. It gets the standard 1.2-liter turbo engine and the basic infotainment setup, so it is best for shoppers who care most about price.
- LS: This is the next step up and is the trim most buyers should compare first because it keeps the affordable positioning while giving you a little more flexibility in equipment. If you want the best-value starting point, this is the one to focus on.
- LT: This trim is the better choice if you want a more complete everyday setup without jumping all the way to the style-focused versions. It still uses the standard powertrain in front-wheel-drive form, but it sits in the range where the Trailblazer’s comfort and tech story starts to feel more rounded.
- Activ: This is the trim for you if you want the Trailblazer’s more rugged look and the upgraded 1.3-liter powertrain. It also pairs well with the available upgraded infotainment system, making it a strong pick if you want style and features together.
- RS: This is the sportier-looking choice, and it is the trim to consider if you want the most expressive appearance and the upgraded tech options. It suits you best if design and a richer feature set matter more than keeping the purchase as simple as possible.
Chevy Safety Assist is standard, while blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assistance, the high-definition camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,693 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,420.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?
The current average of $17,518 sits slightly below last year's $18,970.
That softer pricing suggests the Trailblazer has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the vehicle in clean condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later. Strong demand for well-kept examples should help support resale, especially for shoppers who want a stylish, tech-forward small SUV.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. The Trailblazer also includes 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification service.
Depending on trim level, you can also get blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control. The main caveat is that the lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist system were described as inconsistent, and the adaptive cruise control could be both over- and under-reactive.
Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It brings stylish design, easy-to-use technology, and broad trim availability at an affordable entry price.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,342, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,518 average.
- It adds a heated steering wheel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2021 is the stronger starting point because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay more for a small feature update, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative, but price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2021.
