How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban cost?

Prices have softened 14.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,713 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban a good car?

Yes — with a 5/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.67/10, it lands strongly for shoppers who want a big, practical SUV. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, spaciousness, and family-friendly comfort, and many compare its feel favorably with more expensive SUVs. The main trade-offs are its size in tight spaces, plus the fact that it can feel overwhelming if you regularly drive in crowded areas.

That fits the Suburban’s role as a full-size, truck-based SUV built for passengers, cargo, and towing rather than compact-city convenience. With 38.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, especially those who value comfort and space over flash.

The diesel powertrain is described as having strong pickup and plenty of grunt, which supports confidence in everyday use and highway merging. It also helps that the Suburban’s setup is aimed at long-haul usefulness and practical family duty.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term risk is not a lack of capability but the cost and complexity that can come with a large, heavily used SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Suburban?

At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a large SUV that may have seen family hauling, towing, or long-distance use. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that could affect comfort or drivability. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example is often worth paying a little more for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with the 10.2-inch touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels, a trailer hitch, power-adjustable front seats, tri-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, remote start, a WiFi hotspot, and a wall-style power outlet. The LT adds a hands-free power liftgate, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, and a nine-speaker Bose premium stereo.
• Powertrain: You get a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, or a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The diesel is the efficiency play, while the V8s emphasize towing and strong acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, and the Teen Driver system. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic assist, front parking sensors, and a surround-view monitor camera system.
• Infotainment: The standard 10.2-inch touchscreen includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation is available, and so is a rear entertainment system with large touchscreens. An available head-up display adds another convenience layer.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel with RWD returns 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. The 4WD diesel returns 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The 5.3-liter V8 returns 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined with RWD, or 15 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined with 4WD. The 6.2-liter V8 returns 15 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined with RWD, or 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined with 4WD.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Suburban trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the value starting point if you want the core Suburban experience without stretching the budget. You still get the big touchscreen, remote start, tri-zone climate control, and the practical cabin layout that makes the Suburban appealing in the first place.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather, heated front seats, a hands-free liftgate, wireless charging, and a better Bose audio system. If you want a more comfortable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• Z71: Choose this if you want the most rugged setup in the lineup. It comes with four-wheel drive with low range, tow hooks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires.
• RST: This is the style-forward choice, with 22-inch wheels, dark exterior accents, and a black interior with red stitching. It suits you if appearance matters more than extra comfort features.
• Premier: This is the step up for shoppers who want more luxury and convenience, including adaptive suspension, navigation, power-folding third-row seats, and heated-and-ventilated front seats.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice if you want the most upscale equipment available, including the available adaptive air suspension, power-retractable running boards, panoramic sunroof, and additional driver-assistance features.

The Z71 is the off-road trim, while the safety package adds optional features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic assist, front parking sensors, and a surround-view monitor camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Suburban?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,713 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,653, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban's resale value?

The current average of $37,653 sits slightly below last year's $43,986.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than just model-year desirability.

Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should hold up better than rougher, higher-mileage trucks. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban safe?

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban earns Good ratings from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, and the Teen Driver system. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic assist, front parking sensors, and a surround-view monitor camera system.

One important caveat is that several advanced safety features are optional rather than standard, so you’ll want to check the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the redesigned Suburban’s newer cabin, larger touchscreen, and available turbodiesel powertrain.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $42,441, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $37,653 average.
• It adds standard Google built-in and broader tech and safety upgrades.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it already delivers the redesigned Suburban’s space, capability, and modern tech at a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for added technology and standard safety upgrades, the 2022 is the cleaner upgrade path.
