Used 2021 BMW X5 for Sale nearWichita, KS

How much does the 2021 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 13.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,263 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW X5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, high-quality interior, and advanced technology, and they also note that it holds its value well. The X5’s family-friendly layout and large cargo area make it a strong fit if you want everyday utility without giving up a premium cabin feel. The main trade-off is that pricing can climb quickly once you start adding features, and the expert review also points to advanced safety features not being standard.

With 38.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with owners highlighting the SUV’s smooth ride, safety features, and high-quality interior. That same feedback also suggests you can count on the X5 to deliver a polished daily-driving experience over time. The expert review reinforces that impression by emphasizing the model’s refined cabin and broad powertrain range.

BMW also includes a long list of standard safety equipment, which can support confidence in everyday use. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is that luxury features and options can raise ownership costs if the vehicle has been heavily equipped or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, driver-assistance systems, and interior condition, since luxury SUVs can hide expensive issues behind a polished presentation. It also makes sense to focus on how the vehicle was optioned, because the X5’s equipment can vary a lot by trim and package.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Standard xLine models have matte aluminum grilles, while M Sport styling adds body-color wheel arch trim, bumper trim, rear underbody protection, and side skirts, plus high-gloss black roof rails and window surrounds. The interior of M Sport models also gets an M sports steering wheel, M-specific pedals, a driver’s footrest, seat piping, and model-exclusive interior trim strips.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with 335 horsepower, a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with 523 hp, a more powerful V8 with 600 hp or 617 hp with the Competition Package, and a plug-in hybrid that can deliver up to 30 miles of all-electric range. All engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Every X5 includes blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, fatigue and focus alert, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, but the review notes that it did not react to stopped traffic in time and that lane-keeping performance could be inconsistent.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, five USB ports, voice recognition, a 10-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, proximity key, and a panoramic moonroof.
• Fuel efficiency: The X5 xDrive gets 23 mpg combined, the xDrive45e gets 20 mpg combined on gasoline and 50 MPGe when using electricity and gas, and the X5 M is rated at 15 mpg combined. The X5 M50i gets 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive45e, M50i, M, Competition Package.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value starting point if you want the core X5 experience with the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder, standard AWD on this configuration, and the full standard tech and safety roster. It gives you the broadest balance of price, equipment, and everyday usability.
• xDrive45e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the ability to drive up to 30 miles on electricity alone. It suits you best if you can charge regularly and want a more efficiency-focused X5 without giving up the premium cabin and standard equipment.
• M50i: This trim is for you if you want the twin-turbo V8 and a much more powerful, performance-oriented feel. It adds serious speed, but it also comes with a higher price and lower fuel efficiency.
• M: This is the high-performance choice if outright power matters most. It sits at the top of the standard lineup and is the right fit if you want the most aggressive version of the X5.
• Competition Package: Pick this only if you want the most extreme performance setup, since it pushes output even higher than the M. It is the least practical choice for most shoppers, but it is the most focused on speed.

BMW includes a long list of standard safety features, but advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.71% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,684, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $30,684 sits slightly below last year's $35,559.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to move the vehicle. If you buy well now and keep the X5 in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. The model’s premium image and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 safe?

The 2021 BMW X5 has been given nearly all Good ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips every X5 with blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, fatigue and focus alert, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. The available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, but the review notes that it can struggle to react smoothly to stopped traffic and that lane-keeping performance may be inconsistent in some conditions.

That means the X5 gives you a strong standard safety list, but you should still pay close attention to how the driver-assistance systems behave during a test drive.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model adds the second-generation plug-in hybrid variant to the lineup, giving you another powertrain choice.

The bottom line: The 2021 X5 makes sense if you want a broad powertrain lineup, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that currently favors careful shoppers. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a lower-priced example with the right equipment gives you a better overall value.
