Is the 2021 BMW X5 M a good car?

The 2021 BMW X5 M is a strong fit if you want a high-performance luxury SUV that still benefits from the X5’s roomier cabin, updated technology, and refined everyday usability. With a user rating of 2.5/5, it looks like a vehicle that appeals more to buyers prioritizing driving excitement and premium utility than broad mainstream approval. The X5 M is the most extreme expression of the generation’s performance focus, while still giving you the practicality of a midsize luxury SUV. Good and great deals account for 36.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW X5 M reliable?

The 2021 BMW X5 M sits within the fourth-generation X5 family, which brought more room inside, improved refinement, and modern tech like the pair of 12.3-inch digital displays and the latest iDrive system. It is also described as a serious performance SUV with substantial power, so you should expect ownership to be more demanding than a standard luxury crossover. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-output performance SUV can become expensive to maintain and repair if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X5 M?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of hard use, deferred maintenance, or repair work. Because this is a performance-oriented SUV, condition matters more than mileage alone, so pay close attention to service records, tire wear, brake condition, and overall cosmetic and mechanical consistency.

What is the 2021 BMW X5 M's resale value?

The current average of $56,546 sits slightly below last year's $64,203.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you a better entry point than a year ago. If you buy well and keep the SUV in strong condition, you may be able to limit depreciation pressure relative to paying closer to the prior-year average. For a future seller, the key will be presenting a clean history and documented maintenance, since performance SUVs tend to reward careful ownership.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X5 M or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.93% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2021 is a strong choice if you want the X5 M’s blend of performance and everyday usability at a softer market price than last year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
