How much does the 2021 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 9.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,285 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW X3 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its comfort, smooth ride, strong performance, and especially its comfortable seats. The review summary also points to its power and upscale feel as recurring strengths.

The main trade-offs are its higher price and the fact that some features are less widely available than on some rivals. That matters most if you want a luxury SUV that feels practical and well-equipped without stretching your budget.

BMW positions it as a compact luxury SUV that balances everyday usability with a bit more driving engagement than many rivals, so it fits you best if you want an upscale crossover that still feels lively behind the wheel.

40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, smooth, and strong over time, with the kind of everyday usability that helps build confidence in ownership. The review summary also emphasizes comfort and strong performance, which are good signs that the X3 delivers a satisfying experience beyond the first few months.

BMW’s own setup also supports dependability with a broad spread of standard equipment and a straightforward, easy-to-use infotainment system. The X3’s standard features and multiple powertrain choices give you flexibility, which can help you choose a version that better matches your needs and driving habits.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is paying extra for a premium SUV that may need more careful maintenance planning than a mainstream model.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or vehicles with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and signs that the vehicle has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i come with 18-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, synthetic leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch infotainment system, navigation, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The M40i adds 19-inch alloy wheels, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, unique exterior styling, and an M Sport suspension, while many optional comfort features become standard. If you want the best value, the xDrive30i gives you the core X3 experience with all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic. The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid makes 288 hp and offers 17 miles of electric-only range. The M40i steps up to a 382-hp twin-turbo inline-six for much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display are optional.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 10.2-inch touchscreen with iDrive, plus Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is optional. Wireless device charging, a fully digital instrument panel, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid returns 30 MPGe in electric mode and 24 mpg in hybrid mode. The sDrive30i returns 25 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined, the xDrive30i returns 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, and the M40i returns 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and xDrive30e plug-in hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and gives you the core X3 formula with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive, and the main comfort and tech features. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need all-wheel drive.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same core equipment and efficiency balance. If you want the most broadly appealing version, this is the one to start with.
• xDrive30e plug-in hybrid: Choose this if you want the most efficient X3 and like the idea of short electric-only trips. It also brings the same standard-and-optional feature structure as the lower trims.
• M40i: This is the performance choice, with a 382-hp inline-six, more responsive cornering, and a richer standard equipment set. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than price or fuel economy.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but some advanced features remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X3?

It looks like a buyer’s market for this model year, especially if you’re comparing listings carefully and moving quickly on well-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,285 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,983, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $24,037 sits slightly below last year's $26,632.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped.

Because the X3 still has strong demand, a clean example with desirable features should remain easier to move than a neglected one. If you buy carefully now, you give yourself a better chance of preserving value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 safe?

The 2021 BMW X3 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. That gives you a strong baseline of active safety equipment even before you start looking at options.

Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display are optional, so you may need to shop carefully if you want the fullest safety feature set. The main caveat is that some of the most desirable driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW added more standard safety features and new in-car tech for this year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,357, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,037 average.
• It gets a substantial refresh with new engines, more technology, and an expanded safety suite.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a healthy supply of listings. If you’re willing to spend more for a refreshed model with broader updates, the 2022 is the better path.
