How much does the 2021 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 10.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,283 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW X3 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, smooth ride, and strong performance, and they especially like the comfortable seats. The X3 also gets credit for its spacious interior and broad range of technology, which makes it appealing if you want an upscale crossover that still feels practical. On the trade-off side, the expert review notes that it sits on the expensive end of the segment and that some features are not as widely available as they are on some rivals. That makes it a strong fit if you value everyday usability and a more engaging drive, but less compelling if you are shopping strictly on price. Good and great deals account for 40.1% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with comfort and strong performance that owners can count on day to day. The expert review also emphasizes the X3’s solid driving dynamics and practical usability, which supports the case for long-term ownership confidence. BMW’s standard equipment and broad feature set help it feel well-rounded, and the plug-in hybrid adds another layer of flexibility for buyers who want it. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and that its feature-rich systems are working as intended.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any X3 you are considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the condition of the interior, electronics, and any optional equipment, since the model offers a lot of tech and convenience features. It also helps to focus on how the vehicle was equipped, because some desirable items are optional rather than standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i come standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, synthetic leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch infotainment system, navigation, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The M40i adds many of the above optional features as standard, plus 19-inch alloy wheels, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, unique exterior styling, and an M Sport suspension.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The xDrive30i adds all-wheel drive, while the xDrive30e plug-in hybrid makes 288 hp and offers a 17-mile electric-only range. The M40i steps up to a 382-hp twin-turbo inline-six.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display are optional.
• Infotainment: The X3 comes standard with a 10.2-inch touchscreen running iDrive. Apple CarPlay is standard, Android Auto is optional, and wireless device charging, a fully digital instrument panel, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid returns an EPA-estimated 30 MPGe in electric mode and 24 mpg in hybrid mode. The sDrive30i returns 25 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined, the xDrive30i returns 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, and the M40i returns 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and xDrive30e plug-in hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the value play if you want the lowest starting price and a strong standard equipment list, including the 10.2-inch infotainment system, navigation, and tri-zone climate control. It suits you best if you want the core X3 experience without paying for extra drivetrain or performance upgrades.
• xDrive30i: Choose this if you want the same basic equipment as the sDrive30i but prefer all-wheel drive. It is the better fit if you want added traction and still want to stay close to the entry point.
• xDrive30e plug-in hybrid: This is the efficiency-focused choice, with 288 hp and an electric-only driving range. It makes sense if you want the most flexible powertrain and can take advantage of charging at home.
• M40i: This is the best choice if you want the most engaging version of the X3, with a 382-hp twin-turbo inline-six, more standard equipment, and an M Sport suspension. It is the performance pick, but it also sits at the top of the price range.

The standard safety package is strong, but some advanced features remain optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X3?

This looks like a buyer-friendly market for the 2021 BMW X3, especially if you are willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,283 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,596, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $23,596 sits slightly below last year's $26,353.

That price movement suggests the X3 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be starting from a more favorable value position than a buyer who paid closer to the prior-year average. Strong demand for well-equipped luxury compact SUVs can also help support pricing when it is time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 safe?

The 2021 BMW X3 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display are optional, so you may need to shop higher-spec examples if you want the fullest safety feature set. The model’s safety package is strong overall, but some advanced features are not standard.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds more standard safety features and newly available in-car tech features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,888, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $23,596 average.
• It brings a substantial mid-cycle refresh with design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the stronger buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for a refreshed model with broader updates, the 2022 is the better upgrade path.
