How much does the 2021 BMW M4 cost?

Prices are up 1.69% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 244 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The 2021 BMW M4 is built for drivers who care as much about the experience as the destination, and it especially appeals if you want an engaging car rather than just a fast one. The available manual gearbox is a major part of that appeal, and the car’s powerful engine and fun-to-drive character are the core reasons it stands out.

The trade-offs are clear: the ride quality is poor, fuel economy is poor, and the back seat is cramped. That means you should think of it as a driver-focused coupe first and a daily all-rounder second.

The market looks reasonably healthy, with 33.6% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 BMW M4 is described as a car that can handle daily driving well enough to be enjoyable, and the expert notes say the manual transmission is easy to manage in traffic. The twin-turbo straight-six is described as smooth and eager, which supports the impression of a well-sorted performance car.

The expert also notes that the car’s standard equipment and driving character make it feel refined for a high-performance coupe. On the cost side, the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which is a small ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is still a high-performance car, so upkeep and wear items can be more demanding than on a mainstream coupe.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a performance car where hard use can hide wear. Focus on the condition of the drivetrain, brakes, tires, and suspension, and make sure the car’s equipment matches the transmission and trim you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes a standard coupe and a Competition version. The standard car is the more enthusiast-focused choice because it comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, while the Competition adds an eight-speed automatic and extra power. The standard car also lacks several driver-assist features that require the Competition’s automatic transmission.
• Powertrain: The car uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque in standard form. The engine is described as smooth, eager, and perfectly matched to the manual gearbox.
• Safety package: The Driving Assistance Professional Package on the Competition includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, evasive-steering assistance, active blind-spot protection, and extended traffic-jam assistant technology. The manual-transmission car lacks several driver-assist features that require the Competition’s automatic transmission.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, navigation, connected services, and a Harman Kardon premium surround-sound audio system. The Executive Package adds a WiFi hotspot, wireless smartphone charging, gesture control, and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned 20.2 mpg, and the official combined estimate is 19 mpg.

Which 2021 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW M4 is offered in 2 trim levels: standard and Competition.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the one to buy if you want the purest version of the M4 experience. It gives you the six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, and the most engaging setup in the lineup. It also keeps the car’s enthusiast character front and center, which makes it the best-value choice for drivers who care most about involvement.
• Competition: Choose this if you want more power and an automatic transmission. It also unlocks the available driver-assistance package, which adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, evasive-steering assistance, active blind-spot protection, and traffic-jam assistance.

The manual-transmission car lacks several driver-assist features that require the Competition’s automatic transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW M4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough pricing pressure to make a deal possible.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 244 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.69% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 78.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $63,469, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $65,203 sits slightly above last year's $64,120.

That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value relative to a softer market.

The M4’s enthusiast appeal helps support demand, especially because it offers a manual transmission and a strong performance reputation. That kind of character tends to keep used shoppers interested even as the car ages.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW M4 safe?

The 2021 BMW M4’s crash-test ratings are unavailable.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard car includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, speed-limit recognition, front and rear collision-preparation systems, and a post-collision braking system. On the Competition, BMW offers the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, evasive-steering assistance, active blind-spot protection, and extended traffic-jam assistant technology.

The manual-transmission car lacks several driver-assist features that require the Competition’s automatic transmission, so safety-minded shoppers should pay close attention to trim and equipment.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.69% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its available manual gearbox and highly engaging driver-focused character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $69,080, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $65,203 average.
• It adds xDrive all-wheel drive on the top-spec Competition and a soft-top convertible body style.

The bottom line: If you want the most engaging version and care about value, the 2021 is the better starting point. If you want newer features like xDrive or a convertible, the 2022 is worth the extra money. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021, especially if they can find one near the low end of the range.
