Used 2021 BMW 2 Series for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2021 BMW 2 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 599 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW 2 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as one of BMW’s most affordable entry points, and the lineup’s appeal comes from multiple body styles, including a coupe, convertible, and the 2 Series Gran Coupe for shoppers who want an affordable BMW sedan. That makes it a focused choice if you care more about driving feel and brand appeal than everyday practicality.

The trade-offs are clear: the seats are uncomfortable, the back seat is cramped, and it is considered poor value for money. Even so, the combination of handling and technology gives it a stronger enthusiast angle than many entry-level luxury cars.

Only 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than broadly discounted.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is positioned as an accessible way into the brand, and its expert review emphasizes that it blends fun and technology in a small luxury package. The performance notes also point to a turbocharged four-cylinder setup, an eight-speed automatic, and available xDrive, which gives you a capable and well-rounded driving experience for the class.

BMW also includes free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is that this is still a premium small car, so repair and upkeep costs can rise once the included maintenance period is behind you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 2 Series?

At 72.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you’re comparing cars with similar prices but different condition histories. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, because this model’s comfort and practicality are already part of the trade-off.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2 Series Gran Coupe is offered in 228i and M235i model series, and the 228i can be had with xDrive while xDrive is standard on the M235i. The base setup is the more affordable entry point, while the M Sport Package adds sharper steering and a more engaging feel.
• Powertrain: The 228i uses a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, and xDrive is available for added traction. The setup is quick enough for everyday driving and feels lively in Sport mode.
• Safety package: The available Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and a parking-assistant feature that steers the car into a space while you operate the pedals and transmission. The Active Driving Assistant suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, active blind-spot warning with intervention, and a speed limit information system.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive 7.0 system uses an 8.8-inch touchscreen, and the available Live Cockpit Pro adds a fully digital 10.25-inch display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, satellite radio, navigation, and connected services are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car averaged 27.9 mpg, beating the EPA’s 27 mpg combined estimate.

Which 2021 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 228i and M235i.

Here's the short version:

• 228i: This is the best-value choice if you want the most affordable path into the lineup. It gives you the core BMW experience, and you can add xDrive if you want extra traction without stepping all the way up to the M235i.
• M235i: Choose this if you want the standard all-wheel-drive setup and a more performance-focused version of the car. It suits buyers who care more about driving enjoyment than keeping the price down.

The safety package is optional on the 228i, so check whether a used example has the Driving Assistance Package or the broader Active Driving Assistant features you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW 2 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 599 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,145, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $21,145 sits slightly below last year's $23,234.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to sell soon. If prices continue to soften, future sellers may need to be more flexible to stay competitive. On the other hand, a lower entry price can make the car easier to move later if it remains desirable in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2021 BMW 2 Series misses earning a Top Safety Pick due to headlights that rate either Poor or Marginal.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s Active Driving Assistant suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, active blind-spot warning with intervention, and a speed limit information system. The available Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and a parking-assistant feature that can steer the car into a space while you manage the pedals and transmission.

The main caveat is that the car’s IIHS results are held back by headlight performance, and the vehicle-to-pedestrian test also falls short of perfect. If safety is a top priority, you should verify which driver-assistance features are installed on the specific car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers multiple body styles, including a coupe, convertible, and affordable Gran Coupe, which broadens its appeal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,711, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $21,145 average.
• It is an accessible entry-level sedan with easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $25,126, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,145 average.
• It brings a redesigned look, more power, and a more energetic personality.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price and availability, the 2021 is the smart default. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on well-kept examples with clean history and the right safety equipment, while shoppers who want a newer-feeling design may prefer moving up a year.
